Chapter 1154
Shanley tried shifting his body, feeling pain all over.
But-
The pain in his lower half was decidedly more pronounced.
He couldn't distinguish exactly which part hurt.
Juniper didn't make a sound, watching the depressed and even panicked man as if enjoying a good show.
"Juniper..."
After wrestling with himself for a few seconds, Shanley slowly lifted his gaze to look at her, forcing the words out. "I..."
"Beep, beep, beep."
Her phone rang, interrupting him. Juniper stood up, looking down at the man with a smirk. "When you secretly changed the plan, you must have been prepared for death or permanent disability."
"Good thing God was looking out for you and spared your life, only injuring..."
Juniper didn't finish the sentence, but it was visible to the naked eye how Shanley's face drained of color, turning an ashen gray.
Now he knew how to be scared? Regretful?
What was he thinking before?
"Get some good rest, Mr. Schwartz." Juniper shoved her hands into her pockets and raised an eyebrow. "Even if other parts don't work, at least you still have a pretty face to look at."
"Seeing as you almost lost your life, I won't abandon you."
Won't abandon him?
Then what was she doing looking at pictures of pretty boys earlier?
He originally thought she was just angry and looking at those guys to vent her frustration.
Now that his body had issues...
The girlfriend he had worked so incredibly hard to win over was probably going to fly away!
"Juni..."
Before Shanley could finish, Juniper grabbed her phone and walked out the door.
Shanley lay in bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Devastated.
Just then.
A doctor came in to change his dressings.
"Come here," Shanley ordered coldly, his voice hoarse. "Ms. Payne said my lower half is completely ruined. Is that true or false?"
Lower half?
Startled by the icy glare in Shanley's eyes, the doctor was confused for a few seconds before stammering, "Actually, it's not terribly serious. and physical therapy, normal function will eventually return."
With consistent treatments net
Shanley clenched his jaw, speechless.
So.
It wasn't a lie. He really had ruined himself.
After finishing her call with Luella.
Juniper returned to the hospital room.
Before she even sat down, Shanley's deep voice suddenly rang out. "Juniper, do you have any pretty boys you like?"
"?" Juniper paused mid-sit, casting a deeply meaningful glance at him with her dark eyes.
What the hell?
"I didn't quite catch that." Juniper straightened up, kicked the chair aside, and crossed her arms over her chest, suddenly laughing. "What do you mean, Mr. Schwartz? Want to screen them for me?"
"If there's someone suitable." Shanley closed his eyes, fighting to keep the sorrow
from leaking out. "You can try getting to know them."
The doctor's reaction earlier clearly indicated his condition was severe.
Telling him about treatment and physical therapy...
Is this kind of thing something you can just fix with physical therapy?
"Heh." Juniper caught the meaning behind his words. She curled her thin lips into a
smirk. "Aren't you going to kill anyone anymore, Mr. Schwartz?"
"I'm a cripple now. I don't want to drag you down for the rest of your life." Shanley opened his eyes, his bloodshot gaze locked onto Juniper, his tone earnest and sincere. "Juniper, I want you to be happy."
"If I can't give you happiness, and if there's someone who can love and protect you
like I would, I'm willing to step aside for them."
"Wow." Juniper stepped forward,
leaning her hands on the bed. She
leaned down so her face almost touched his her hot breath ghosting across his neck as she said leisurely, "You truly are the ultimate modern 'hopeless romantic,' so selfless."
"Because it's you, I'm willing, and I don't regret it." Shanley gazed at the girl who
was smiling so carelessly, his heart aching fiercely.
