Chapter 1194
Corvus's eyes went wide with rage. He shot up from his chair and stormed out, entirely beside himself.
She wouldn't agree?
She was his prisoner; did she really think her agreement mattered?
"He really is psychotic."
Watching his retreating back, Juniper let out a cold laugh, her insults blunt and merciless. "Now he's just spouting delusional garbage."
Who did he think he was, trying to play her father?
She wouldn't even accept him as a grandson; the bad luck would rub off on her!
Juniper withdrew her gaze, sank back into her chair, and casually resumed typing on her keyboard.
The guards stationed at the door listened to her colorful cursing, too terrified to show anger or even breathe too loudly.
If the boss was intimidated by her, they were better off staying as far away as possible.
Another week passed.
Shanley's preparations were complete, and he was back in peak physical condition.
"I'm coming with you," Ebony Fox declared, blocking his doorway with a dead- serious expression. "I failed to protect her last time. I have to bring her home."
"It's too dangerous."
Shanley tucked his weapon into his jacket, his tone final. "This isn't an operation for you."
"If Luella gets to go, why can't I?"
"Luella is heavily armed and practically one of the guys."
"Her? One of the guys?" Ebony Fox scoffed without mercy, her voice dripping with disdain. "She's incredibly prissy. Does she even fight half as well as I do?"
Shanley frowned, opening his mouth to argue, but realized she actually had a point. "If you say no, I will talk trash about you to my parents every single day," Ebony Fox threatened coldly, her face deadpan. "You can forget about ever marrying my sister." "Fine, but you follow my orders to the letter."
Shanley felt a massive headache coming on, reluctantly giving in.
"Deal." Ebony Fox stood at attention, radiating the aggressive energy of a battle- hungry general. "Don't worry, I'll do exactly what you say."
Shanley was a cunning fox, unlike Juniper, who loved to change strategies mid- mission.
"Let's move."
Shanley stepped forward, and Ebony Fox immediately fell in line behind him.
After a few steps, he suddenly stopped, rubbing his forehead with a conflicted look.
"We might have to take care of a minor complication first."
"?"
Ebony Fox stared at him in confusion.
Half an hour later.
Ebony Fox had locked Jimmie, Harold, and Melvin inside a guest room.
She handed the key over to the most compliant sibling, Coralie.
"Keep them in there, Coralie," Ebony Fox ordered firmly.
"What if they get out and come after me?" Coralie forced a smile, looking terrified. "Don't worry about it."
Ebony Fox patted her shoulder and said with absolute certainty, "By the time I get back, they still won't be able to beat me in a fight."
"Be careful, Four," Coralie choked out, hugging her tightly. "I'll be waiting for you to bring our sister home."
"I will."
Ebony Fox closed her eyes, swallowing her emotions, and walked away without looking back.
At the entrance.
Shanley and Luella were waiting in the SUV.
Ebony Fox climbed into the passenger seat, her expression sour.
"Harold and Melvin can be reasoned with, but Jimmie..."
Luella started the engine, gripping the steering wheel as she muttered, "You can't talk sense intora
like
that He just needs a good beating!"
"Ms. Langley, you seem to have a
real problem with my oldest
brother. Ebony Fox usually kept to herself, but she was fiercely
protective of her family.
Listening to Luella constantly pick on Jimmie, she snapped, "I suggest you show
him some respect from now on."
"Tsk."
Luella wasn't offended. Her temper
flared for a second before she just laughed it off wearily. "Whatever I'm not getting into it with you. That pretty-boy started it anyway.
If she tried to explain the entire feud, they'd be sitting there for three days.
The only thing that mattered right now was saving Juniper.
