Chapter 1209
While Juniper relaxed against him, Shanley covertly wrapped his fingers around hers, silently memorizing the exact circumference of her ring finger to ensure the custom diamond would be a perfect fit.
At midnight.
Shanley's breathing was deep and even, appearing completely fast asleep.
Juniper quietly slipped out of bed, opening the door with practiced silence.
If she delayed any longer, Theia would start worrying.
The exact second the door clicked shut, the 'sleeping' man's eyes snapped open. He grabbed his phone from the nightstand and dialed Jimmie Tate.
"Hello?"
Jimmie checked the time, frowning in the dark. "Calling me in the middle of the night? Is it an emergency?"
"Yeah," Shanley nodded, grinning so hard his face hurt. "Juniper and I are getting engaged."
"?"
Jimmie nearly cursed him out, swallowing down his irritation. "I get that you're happy, but there is absolutely no need to harass me at this ungodly hour."
"Just keeping you in the loop. Go back to sleep."
Shanley dropped the bomb and immediately hung up.
A newly awakened Jimmie: "?"
Was he psychotic?! So what if he was getting a wife? Did he have to be so obnoxious about it?!
Having crossed Jimmie off the list, Shanley immediately dialed Harold.
Harold: "Schwartz, are you actively trying to provoke my 'protective older brother' instincts?"
He steals their sister, and instead of keeping a low profile, he parades it in their faces at midnight.
Arrogant fox.
"You're overthinking it, Harold." Shanley smirked, his voice dripping with smug satisfaction. "I'm just spreading joy."
"Do I sound joyful to you? Beep-"
With a cold sneer, Harold aggressively ended the call.
Unfazed and practically buzzing with adrenaline, Shanley scrolled to Melvin's contact next.
"Engaged?!" Melvin practically screamed into the receiver, his lungs sounding like they were about to explode. "Already?! Did I agree to this?!"
"Why would need your agreement?" Shanley sounded radiant, his tone lazy and infuriatingly casual. Why don'tyou ask Juniper tomorrow? She proposed to me."
"She looked right at me and said, 'Let's get married, Shanley."
"Heh." Melvin let out a chilling, psychotic laugh. "Schwartz, you'd better sleep with one eye open tonight."
"Well, that's all." Shanley chuckled. "I have more people to share the good news with. Gotta go."
Melvin: "???"
For the next hour, Shanley acted like he was high on stimulants, systematically calling half his contact list.
He called Coralie, Celine, and Warren.
He didn't call Ebony Fox, however.
Mostly because she was right next door, and Shanley was highly aware that the fearsome mercenary would legitimately kick down his door and stab him.
He called every single member of the Schwartz family, Felton, Flint...
At 3 AM, the executive board of the Schwartz Group all received frantic calls from the CEO's personal assistants, demanding an emergency video conference.
Assuming the company was under
hostile takeover, the executives
dragged themselves out not
bed
panic stricken Half of them put their sut jackets on inside out Content.
The meeting began.
Shanley appeared on screen, looking terrifyingly energetic, a slight smirk playing on
his lips. "I have an announcement to make..."
"Yes, sir."
The executives grabbed their notepads, sitting ramrod straight, bracing for
catastrophic market news.
"My proposal was successful. I am getting engaged."
"That is all."
"Meeting adjourned."
"???"
A collective wave of blank confusion washed over the executives.
Wait... he woke them up at 3 AM... for that?
"Sigh, just get used to it," one of the executives muttered after Shanley disconnected tossing his pen down with a helpless laugh. "He's hopelessly obsessed. We all know how he gets."
"If he's like this for an engagement... God help us when the actual wedding happens!!!"
