Chapter 1262
"Is that right?"
Jimmie grabbed a hot towel to wipe his hands, then tossed it harshly back onto the tray. With a smile that didn't reach his eyes, he asked, "I'd love to hear exactly what Mr. Langley's standards are, then."
Luella froze slightly, her smile slowly fading.
"It's a secret."
A few seconds later, she curled her lips upward, feigning a relaxed tone.
Given her identity, her true gender couldn't be exposed if she wanted to inherit the position of Executive Chief in Stellara Country. So romantic partners and lovers were completely off the table for her. She wasn't going to drag anyone down with her, and she certainly didn't want anyone complicating her life.
*A secret?*
The mockery in Jimmie's eyes deepened. So he really did have someone he liked? Some pretty boy out there?
"What about you?" Luella's inner gossip flared to life. "You've been in the industry for years with zero scandals. Are you hiding an underground romance, or harboring a secret crush?"
"What type do you like? Come on, tell me."
Staring at the eager, nosy face leaning toward him, Jimmie's eyes grew progressively colder. Finally, he stated in an icy tone, "Women!"
He bit down on the word with deliberate force.
*Women?*
That was it?
"Oh? Ah!" Luella scratched her head, muttering softly, "So you really do like women!"
"Sorry about that. I completely misunderstood before. I thought you were into guys!"
"What on earth gave you the impression I liked men?!" Jimmie's face was terrifyingly cold.
"My mistake, my mistake."
Luella offered an apologetic smile and quickly changed the subject. "How many days are you staying in Stellara? Once I finish dealing with my family stuff, let me buy you a meal."
After all, she had hitched a ride on his jet. A meal was the least she could do.
"No need."
Jimmie turned his head away, staring out the window as the plane began its slow descent.
He needed to keep his distance from this kid. Otherwise, he was going to keep having those messed-up, confusing dreams.
"Suit yourself."
Luella smiled indifferently, not pushing the issue.
...
10:00 PM, Stellara Country.
The plane touched down.
Luella grabbed her bag and tossed a casual wave at Jimmie. "The hotel is all set. You can just head straight there and check in."
"Yeah."
Jimmie nodded. Watching the 'boy
standing casually in the evening
'n'
breeze his voice dropped to a husky register. "Where are you staying? Do you want a ride part of the way?"
Didn't she just say Stellara was dangerous right now? And it was the middle of the night. Plus, his sister had specifically told him to look out for Luella.
"No need."
Luella slung her bag over her shoulder, looking down at the man in the car. "Call me
if
f you need anything. See ya."
Watching the young man's figure gradually disappear into the night, Jimmie fell deep into thought.
"Mr. Tate, isn't Mr. Langley acting a bit strange?" Clark asked quietly from the driver's seat.
"Let's go."
Jimmie retracted his gaze, issuing the command in a flat tone.
2:00 AM.
After passing through multiple layers of security and being forced to change into appropriate attire, Luella was escorted into Lachlan Langley's Executive Residence.
"Young Master."
Seeing her return, the passing staff immediately bowed their heads.
The entire country knew that Executive Chief Lachlan Langley heavily favored his youngest son. Toward his eldest, Luella, he was notoriously cold, and their relationship was abysmal
Rumor had it that Luella was nothing more than a weapon to clear obstacles for
Jared. Once Jared came of age, Luella would be discarded like a used tool.
But for now, she was still technically the 'Executive Chief Candidate,' so everyone had to keep up appearances.
"Where is he?"
Luella's face was dark. A terrifying, unapproachable aura radiated from her, making the nearby staff tremble.
"He?"
A maid looked bewildered for a second before hesitantly asking, "Young Master, do you mean the Executive Chief?"
"Who else?"
Luella shot her a dark, displeased look.
"The Executive Chief is waiting for you in his study," the maid hurriedly replied.
