Chapter 1271
Esme Langley's eyes snapped up, a barrage of curses ready on her lips. But when she saw Luella Langley's face, her expression shifted. "Why is it you?"
"What do you think you're doing?" Luella violently shook off Esme's hand. Her gaze swept over Jimmie Tate's face, a half-smile playing on her lips. "Kidnapping a man in broad daylight, huh?"
Jimmie hadn't expected to run into Luella again. He had actually been quite touched for a moment. But hearing her nonsensical teasing, he realized he had been moved too soon.
"Let go!" Esme wrenched herself free and stumbled back two steps. "Since when is my business any of your concern?"
*Slap!*
The moment the words left her mouth, a harsh slap landed on her cheek. Luella rubbed her own palm, staring down at Esme with a mocking sneer. "Excuse me? I'm your older brother. Where are your manners?"
Luella stepped closer. "I am the eldest son of the Executive Chief's official wife. Do I need to remind you what you are?"
Esme's mother had been a mistress who managed to marry in, making Esme the daughter of a mistress.
Hearing this, Esme's face paled, her eyes darting away. No one dared to throw that in her face-except for this absolute menace, Luella.
"Say it!" Luella crossed her arms, her voice turning cold. "Do I need to teach you the rules again?"
Esme desperately wanted to refuse, but she knew Luella was capable of anything. She might actually broadcast to the entire crowd that Esme was a mistress's daughter. That would be far more humiliating.
After a tense moment of deliberation, Esme gritted her teeth. Her cheek twitched as she reluctantly squeezed out the words. "Bro."
"Get lost!"
Esme grabbed her bag and stormed off, fuming.
Luella calmly retracted her gaze and looked at Jimmie, that teasing half-smile returning. "Jimmie Tate, that face of yours sure knows how to attract trouble."
"I heard her last name is Langley," Jimmie noted, taking a step closer. His dark eyes locked onto Luella, his voice low and hoarse.
"My half-sister."
*Half-sister?*
Jimmie frowned. His gaze dropped to Luella's hand, his tone laced with concern. "Are you alright?"
That slap had been vicious.
"I'll live." Luella shoved her hands into her pockets, lifting her delicate chin. "Why haven't you left yet?"
"My flight is at nine."
"I see." Luella glanced at the time. "Well, I've got some business to handle, so I can't treat you to dinner."
She paused, eyes sparkling with mischief. "Though I'm guessing you wouldn't want to share a table with me anyway, right?"
Jimmie prèssed his thin lips
together silence. Before, he truly hadn't wanted to see her. But after interacting a few more times he found
he didn't hate her presence all that much.
"Shoot." Luella suddenly spun on her heel and started walking away,

Watching Luella's retreating figure, Jimmie's eyes deepened, his expression impossibly complex.
"That slap Mr. Langley gave her was pretty badass," Clark's voice suddenly chimed in from the side.
Jimmie turned his head to see his assistant staring in Luella's direction with absolute admiration.
Luella claimed Jimmie attracted people, but from where Jimmie stood, she was just as much of a magnet. Men, women—it didn't seem to matter.
That night.
Clark packed up their things. "Jimmie, the car is downstairs. We should head out."
"Yeah." Jimmie tore his eyes away from his phone and strode forward.
"Are you waiting for a call?" Clark asked.
"No." Jimmie frowned, instinctively denying it.
That
menace
e tuella was completely unpredictable. What if she actually called him for dinner? He had to give Juniper some face, after all. But he hạd waited from the afternoon all the way into the night, and he hadn't received a single notification! Cóntent
She was full of hot air!
He wasn't waiting anymore. If he gave Luella another thought, he was a fool!
