Chapter 1284
A girl? Catch his eye?
Clark's words hit him like a bucket of ice water, snapping him fully awake.
If that was what it meant to like someone... then the fact that he hadn't been able to stop thinking about Luella for the past two weeks meant he liked her?
How could he possibly have feelings for Luella?
He was attracted to... a man?!
"Mr. Tate? Are you still there?" Clark asked tentatively.
"I'm fine." Jimmie hung up the phone and pulled over to the side of the road, taking
a deep breath to steady his racing thoughts.
No. It couldn't be. He was just exhausted from work, and his brain was playing tricks
on him. Plus, she had risked her life to save him. It was just gratitude.
Exactly. It was just deep, overwhelming gratitude. Nothing more.
Having successfully convinced himself, Jimmie exhaled a long breath and pulled back onto the road.
When he finally got out of the car, something caught his eye on the passenger seat. A small red earring.
If he wasn't mistaken, it was the exact one Luella always wore on her left ear.
He scooped it up, planning to hand it over along with the car tomorrow.
The next day, Juniper headed straight to the medical department after her regular classes.
It was time for the pop quiz. She sat calmly at her desk with a single pen, waiting for the test papers.
"I heard this one is brutal," a student nearby muttered. "Professor Dawson said it'd be a miracle if anyone even passes."
"There aren't many questions, but the difficulty is insane. If you get stuck, you're looking at a zero."
"Come on, we're not going to get a zero. We've been studying medicine for years."
"Speak for yourself! Some people might not be so lucky."
Juniper casually leaned against the wall, playing a game on her phone, hearing every word. She didn't know who "some people" referred to, but she was pretty sure it wasn't her.
The exam officially began. As per the tradition for graduate classes, the professor didn't stay in the room toproctor. There were cameras, but the students were mostly self-disciplined.
Half an hour in, a student in the front row glanced back. What he saw nearly gave him whiplash.
Juniper was fast asleep on her desk.
Wow. The rest of the class exchanged looks, shaking their heads. Looked like someone really was going to score a zero.
*Ring!*
The bell jolted Juniper awake. She stretched lazily, folded her test paper, and walked it over to Professor Dawson's office.
Laughter erupted the second she left.
"I can't believe she actually turned it in. Professor Dawson probably won't even want to look at it!"
"I timed her. Out of a sixty-minute exam, she slept for at least forty."
Which meant she'd only spent twenty minutes actually working on it.
"Wait until the grades come out. Let's see if she still has the nerve to show her face in this class."
Walking out of the campus gates, Juniper answered a call from Luella.
"Ahhhhh!"
Juniper nearly dropped her phone from the deafening shriek.
"Juniper! The guy might have a resting bitch face and a terrible temper, but when he says thank you, he goes all out!"
"What did he do?" Juniper slid into Felton's car, giving him a nod to start driving.
"He got me a red supercar!" Luella could barely contain her excitement. "I looked it up. Fully loaded, it's easily over thirteen million! If I had known
he was this generous, I won't"
have argued with him so much."
"That's great." Juniper smiled, genuinely surprised. She hadn't expected Jimmie to go that big for a thank you gift. Melvin found out he'd probably cough up blood from jealousy.
"But..." Luella's tone suddenly dropped. "I lost my earring."
She had no idea if it fell off on the plane, at the restaurant, or somewhere else. She couldn't find it anywhere.
"Where are you? I'll come over right now," Juniper said.
