Chapter 239
The wedding....
Evelyn
Soft music drifted through the room like a lullaby. I stood before the mirror, my breath catching.
Today... was the wedding.
Jacob and I—after everything-we were finally becoming husband and wife. And even though what we had felt like a vow long before today... this moment held a different kind of magic. It shimmered in the air, heavy and sacred. The thought of walking down the aisle felt surreal. My eyes welled again. I hadn't stopped crying all morning and I didn't think I would anytime soon.
"Hey... Dad," I whispered when he entered. He paused in the doorway, completely still-his gaze landed on me, and I watched it shift into something tender and
glassy.
"God," he breathed. "You look so beautiful, Princess." He crossed the room and pulled me into his arms. We clung to each other, and the tears fell freely. I'd always imagined this day...but never had I ever thought that it'd feel like this. I couldn't describe how I felt it felt strange. I was happy, yes I indeed was, but at the same time, I was feeling something else that was the opposite. All the feelings they were making a mess within my chest.
"This feels so weird," I sniffled into his shoulder. "I practiced not crying. For days. And now-now it just won't stop."
Dad let out a teary laugh, one laced with something bittersweet, "It's your wedding, Evelyn," he said, brushing the tears from my cheeks. "You're about to make vows that bind you together for life, and maybe even after that. That's no small thing, sweetheart." He smiled gently. "And don't worry. The makeup hasn't budged. Got the best artist in America.
A soft laugh escaped me at that. He extended his hand, and I slipped mine into it. "Let's go, Princess..." His voice trembled just enough to crack my heart open.
He wasn't looking at the woman I was today. He was seeing his little girl-the one who used to leap onto his bed at dawn, ruin his work files with cartoon doodles, and kiss his face until he gave in and bought her that toy. And I... I was looking at my superhero. The man who taught me how to walk, how to ride a bike, how to hate math-just like him. He would always be my hero. Even now, as he walked me toward another man.
The double doors opened. A hush fell over the crowd.
All eyes turned. Mom, Clara, Enzo, Rosaline, Mason, Jennie, Nancy... even Cameron. My gaze swept across the faces. And then I saw her-Chloe. And standing beside the groomsmen... Tyler.
Jacob had hated the idea. But I'd insisted. After our last conversation-when Tyler and I laid everything bare, when he'd apologized and I'd forgiven-we'd made a promise. To be friends. To stay in each other's corners. He wasn't the man he once was. Joey had helped him heal. He was changed. And I wanted him here.
Everyone who mattered from the journey was here. To celebrate the day I'd been waiting for so long.
And then... my eyes found Jacob.
He was staring at me as if I were a vision-his heart in his eyes, tears brimming. Tyler, clearly trying not to laugh, handed him a tissue. Jacob took it with a scowl but wiped his face all the same.
I smiled. Through tears, I smiled.
And as Dad led me down the aisle, Sienna-wide-eyed and speechless-stood beside Clara, her hands clutched tightly, her expression pure awe. That look alone sent fresh tears rolling down my cheeks.
Soft violins swelled. The lights dimmed. Time slowed.
Each step...it felt like dragging me closer to my dream. I could touch it, feel it and feel the warmth of it. All the moments before this day, the storms we'd weather, the nights we'd cried and the moments we'd stolen—it all flashed in-front of my eyes—and suddenly, all of it, every tear shed, every storm we'd faced and everything we'd overcome-it all felt worth it.
We reached the altar. Jacob stepped forward and took my hand, steady and
warm.
Jennie and Nancy stood to the side, my bridesmaids, tears streaming down their cheeks. Mason... Mason was a mess. Full-on crying. Sienna left her post and patted his knee, whispering something only for him and then he started crying hugging her.
Jacob leaned close. "Hey, love," he whispered, as I stepped up onto the platform beside him.
We turned to face the priest. And then, with a calm voice, he spoke.
"Today, we are not merely gathered to witness a ceremony-but to honor a promise. A promise whispered in quiet moments, etched in shared glances, and sealed in two hearts that chose each other long before this day. Love is not always loud Sometimes it lives in the quiet the, reaching hands, the held silences, the unwavering presence. And today, in front of those who love you, you choose to bind yourselves... in word, in will, and in enduring devotion." He turned to Jacob.
s
"You have chosen her-not as a fleeting moment, but as your forever. You've seen her strength and her softness... and you've made her your home. If you are ready-speak your heart."
Jacob took a deep breath, tears shimmering in his eyes.
"Evelyn..." he whispered.
And God-he had me at that. He didn't need to say anything more. He already had all of me.
"Before I met
et you,
love was just a word," he said. "But then you walked in-and suddenly, love had eyes. A voice. A laugh that made time stand still. You didn't just change my life, Evelyn. You became it." He held my hand tighter, his gaze locked into mine-seeing me, all of me, "You fixed me-you destroyed my demons, you fought the darkness and brought the light back to me. You made me yours-better, stronger and capable of loving you and our daughter with everything I have within myself-You made me... yours," He breathed, " And today....I vow to never take for granted the way your hand fits in mine—like it was always meant to. To protect your dreams as if they were my own. s
To fight for us when the world grows too loud. To choose you-in comfort, in chaos, in silence, and in storm. I promise to be your strength when you're tired, your softness when the world feels too sharp, your peace when the noise won't stop."
He smiled through the tears.
"You are my best friend-no Samuel harmed," He emitted small chuckle through tears and a soft smile spread on my lips, "My reason. My miracle. And for the rest of my days, I vow to honor you, listen to you, hold you... and love you in every way a man can love with fire, with faith, and with everything I am."
By then I was a mess of tears. A soft, trembling, joyful mess. I didn't even know
if I could speak. All I could do was look at him-and feel. Feel the love swelling inside me, radiant and overwhelming. This felt like a dream. And the best part was... it wasn't.
The priest turned toward me, eyes kind.
"And you... you have chosen him. Not for who the world sees-but for who he becomes when he's with you. You have walked through fire, and found each other waiting on the other side. And now, you vow to walk forward-hand in hand, always. If you are ready, speak your heart."
I drew a breath, shaky and full.
"I didn't fall in love with you all at once," I began, "I fell in love with the way you looked at me—like I was the only one in the room. With how your silence understood mine. With the way you made the world feeb quieter... safer... softer." A teary smile broke across my lips, "You completed me. Before you, I was okay-living, but the moment you stepped into my life, I realized a new meaning of this life-that I could be happy-so happy that this world didn't feel heavy anymore. You took my soul out and wiped it clean, Jacob you made me who I am me who today. You turned me into someone better-someone brave, someone strong and someone who is totally and utterly yours," I looked into his eyes, "And today..." I drew in a breath, "I vow to never forget that love. I promise to stand beside you when storms rise. To laugh with you through all the silly, quiet, in-between moments. To hold your hand when life feels too heavy to bear alone." My voice trembled, but my heart surged stronger, "I vow to choose you-not just today, but every ordinary morning and every sleepless night. To fight for us when
it would be easier to walk away. To grow beside you, not apart. You are my home, my calm, my fire... my forever," I whispered, "And I promise-however I can-to be the peace you come home to. The mirror that reflects the best of you. The love that never asks you to be anything but you."
to s
He reached out, gently, reverently—and slid the ring onto my finger. My hands
trembled as I did the same for him, sealing it all in gold and devotion.
The priest smiled.
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you... husband and wife."
And then―Jacob closed the space between us. His hand slipped around my waist. He pulled me into him, and kissed me.
And in that moment, the world fell away. There was only the heat of his lips, the feel of his breath on mine, his heartbeat thudding beneath my hand against his chest. It was him. It had always been him.
This was my story.
Our story.
Our forever.
Here's to:
Two hearts. One home.
One beautiful, imperfect, unstoppable forever.
The End.
