Blythe’s P.Q.V.

After storming out of Karma’s office, I went straight home. Evander was waiting right where I left him like a good little boy. Butter was back to rubbing all over him, demanding pets.

“I talked to Karma,” I said. “You can look at me.” But he didn’t. “I’m being honest, Evander,” I said, annoyed. “He agreed that you had to look at the pain you caused every day.” That made him wince slightly. “He told me why we’re on lockdown too.”

I was met with silence.

“Does my mom and your dad know about your punishment?” I asked.

“Yeah,” he replied. “Dad was waiting for me last night. Angie helped Doc clean me up.”

I blinked rapidly, trying not to be pi.ssed that my mom had to see Evander like that.

“Have you actually talked to either of them about this?” I asked. “It kinda makes sense now. I mean, I told them back when I had come clean about everything. They gave me strange looks. I thought that it was confirmation that you five had done it without the club’s knowledge. Now I see that they were just confused as to why their son would lie.”

“I’m not Angie’s son-”

“Oh, that’s gonna be the first thing to go,” I cut him off angrily. “My mom is your mom. She’s raised you for the better part of your life. You have no other mom. All the sh.it you normally do to push my mom away because you love me… that ends now. All of it. We’re all gonna be one big happy family one day, Evander. Stepbrother and stepsister who fu.ck and get married and have babies. So, get over it now, however you need to, because that’s your future. And Mom doesn’t deserve to be treated like that just because you’re in love with her daughter.”

I huffed by the time I was done and Evander’s face was a bright shade of red.

“Okay, but… then you have to call my dad, Dad,” he said awkwardly. It was like he wasn’t sure if he even had the right to say that. Which he didn’t, but he was right.

“You’re right,” I agreed. “I only didn’t because of your sister, but she’s gone now.”

“Everly’s the reason you never called him Dad?” he asked.

“You sound shocked,” I grumbled.

“I’m not,” he replied, shaking his head. “I mean… it’s just still kinda crazy, ya know? I… I really believed her all that time. I never thought my twin would be so cruel. I had no idea why you’d suddenly changed. I should have questioned it more.”

“I’ll say,” I muttered before continuing a little louder. “Everly had been bullying me since the night our parents got married. She lied to me and manipulated all of you. It worked though. By the time I was being sent to live with Daniel, I was convinced none of you really wanted me around. I remember the day that Tusk told me I could call him Dad if I wanted to. And I remember the very first time I did. At dinner one night. Casually. And the next day, I got grounded for apparently ripping up Everly’s homework, and she told all of you that she saw me kissing another boy. Do you

remember that?”

Evander squeezed his eyes shut and cleared his throat.

“Yeah, I remember,” he replied quietly.

“And what did you all do?” I asked, crossing my arms.

“I…” he trailed off, making me sigh in frustration.

“You cornered me at school and called me a wh.ore in front of everyone,” I said, replying for him. “Chayton stole a pair of my panties and taped them to my locker for everyone to see. Kylian didn’t talk to me for two weeks because I ‘refused to tell him who the boy was. Tae couldn’t even look at me for days…” I trailed off as tears sprung to my eyes.

“I’m so sorry Blythe,” Evander whispered.

“That night, Everly told me if I ever called Tusk Dad again, she’d make sure you all thought I was the biggest sl.ut in the school. She’d even make sure that Mom and Tusk thought so too,” I told him.

“Why are you drudging this up, Bly…?” He asked gently.

“Does it bother you to talk about it?” I asked. “Do you feel ashamed? Embarrassed? Because it’s just memories for me.”

Evander gave me a pained look, and I let all my emotions show on my face. My rage, my heartbreak, my sorrow. Blatant. Raw. All for him to see.

“Yeah,” he finally replied, swallowing hard. “I feel fu.cking ashamed. More than ever. I should have done better by you.”

“You should have done better for everyone,” I said. He nodded in agreement, looking guilty. “Now you have to fix it.”

“Bly, there ain’t much I can do…” he replied.

“We’ll figure it out,” I told him.

“You saying you’re gonna help me fix all this? That ain’t fair-”

“No.” I interrupted him. “Not help you. I’m going to make sure you know exactly what you did and hope that you make the right choices after. But I’m telling you that you better fix it.”

“I… I don’t even know where to begin,” he told me.

“Understandable,” I mumbled as I moved to sit beside him on my bed. “Why don’t you start with

me?”

“What can I even say?” he said, looking at me with tear–filled eyes. “I’m just so fu.cking sorry. I don’t know what more to say than that. That, and that I’m a fu.cking a.sshole. A stupid one. I feel so guilty and ashamed. I’m more sorry than you’ll ever know. I regret everything so much, Blythe. I should have held onto you instead of pushing you away. I’m so sorry.”

I looked away from him as I nodded slowly.

“I know that,” I said softly. “None of us… the rest of the guys and me… have talked about it. About what I told you I went through.” Evander winced, but I pretended not to notice. “Everything happened so fast when they dragged you away. I haven’t really talked to them since. I have no idea how they really feel. How any of you really feel. I could probably take a guess, but…” I trailed off, peeking at him.

“What do you want me to say, Blythe?” he asked as a tear fell from his eye. “I feel like everything you would went through was my fault. Maybe if I hadn’t started pushing you away in the first place, you never have let Everly fill your head with sh.it. Maybe I would have realized that Daniel was a li.ar. Hell, I doubt th uld have even let you go the first time around. If I had just made some better

decisions… if I’d just loved you the way I wanted to… maybe none of that would have ever happened. And to find out that Sean spotted you randomly one day, that he was behind it all… You weren’t just physically abused but mentally and emotionally too. The guys were right. It’s

admirable that you came out as strong as you are. But this was never something I wanted for you. I thought you were safe and happy. I swear, I thought you were better off, Bly.”

I let his words hang around us for several minutes.

“You didn’t know Evander,” I said softly. “I know that excuse only goes so far, but you didn’t know.”

He shook his head and sniffled.

“I might not have, but I knew what was going on here,” he said. “I watched my brothers fall apart and did nothing. I watched Angie… God, I was there when Dad found her… And I still… I just…”

“Why didn’t you say anything then?” I asked, genuinely curious. “I know you didn’t want me to come

back, but… even when I was missing you kept it a secret.”

“I thought about coming clean. A lot,” he admitted. “Especially when CG started to really spiral. Especially when Angie tried to kill herself. The words were right on the tip of my tongue, but… I was scared. I thought that everyone would hate me. I thought too much had happened and if I’d

come clean then… I’d lose my brothers. Kinda pathetic. And selfish. In the end… I lost them

anyway.”

“You didn’t lose them,” I told him. “They’re just angry right now.”

“And Angie?” he asked. “I have no idea how she was even able to help me last night.”

“I think she’d forgiven you before the rest of us even knew the truth,” I said honestly. “Mom’s always

been so kind and understanding. She loves you like you’re her real son. Even if she was devastated

by what you did… there’s probably part of her that understood. Just like part of me understands.”

“I don’t deserve her forgiveness,” he whispered. “Or yours, or theirs.”

“You’re right, you don’t,” I agreed. “But that doesn’t mean you can’t start trying to be deserving.”

“You’re my lapdog now,” I cut him off. “Let’s just take things one day at a time.”

“Alright,” he replied.

I slapped my hands on my thighs and jumped to my feet.

“Come on then,” I called out as I walked to my door.

“We going to see the guys?” he asked.

“Nope,” I replied. “I just heard that some members are coming back any day now.”

“Uh, oh?” he mumbled, confused.

“And as the first lady,” I added. “We have a party to plan. And you’re gonna help.”
