Chapter 1127
Tavon spent some time at the hospital before leaving Sean in the nurse's care and heading home.
The housekeeper had been so spooked the night before that she bolted, didn't even bother to ask for her pay.
Tavon had once thought about hiring Mckenzie to help around the house, but after he left for Nabb Mount, Mckenzie-being wary of Sandy-decided not to take the job.
The house felt empty and cold. Tavon was about to take a breather when he suddenly remembered Ashley was still in her room.
Ashley hadn't gotten any better-still out cold. The doctor had already said that unless there was some miracle, she'd be stuck in a vegetative state for the rest of her life.
Tavon rushed upstairs, and as soon as he opened the door, the stench hit him in the face.
Ashley had lost control of her body, and with no one to look after her, the sheets were completely soiled.
He nearly gagged on the smell and couldn't even step closer. Tavon quickly backed out and called a cleaning service to handle the mess.
Not long after, the cleaner finished up and said, "All set, Mr. Tavon."
"Thanks, here's your payment," Tavon said, handing over the money without a second thought.
Then it hit him—there was nobody at home to look after Ashley. He couldn't take care of her himself. As soon as the cleaner left, Tavon called a care facility.
He moved fast. By that afternoon, Ashley had been checked into the nursing home, a year's fees paid upfront, and Tavon was off the hook.
Leaving the care home, Tavon called Salma. "Salma, are you still mad at me? I've been running around all night—Sean fell down the stairs and landed in the hospital, Sandy's gone, and I've been sorting things out all morning. I just got Ashley settled into a care home..."
He didn't mention anything about Sandy hiring a hitman.
Hearing Tavon say he put Ashley in a care home left Salma cold. She asked, "So, what are you going to do now? Go back to Nabb Mount?"
“Sean's health isn't good. I'll stay in Willowbrook and keep an eye on him," Tavon said. “Sandy took off with all my money. Even the trust fund I left for you and Ana- Sandy blew through that too. That ungrateful girl, she'll be the death of me..."
Salma cut him off. "We're heading back to Riverdale today with your son-in-law and the kids. If you're staying in Willowbrook, take care of yourself."”
"So you're leaving so soon?" Tavon sounded a little disappointed.
“There's no reason for us to hang around now that things have settled down. You're always welcome in Riverdale," Salma replied, keeping it polite.
They chatted a bit more, then hung up.
After the call, Salma just sat on the sofa, lost in thought.
Then the doorbell rang.
Salma got up to answer it-Anastasia was at the door.
"Mom, you got everything packed? We're heading out soon," Anastasia said.
"All packed," Salma replied. "Your dad called earlier-Sean's in the hospital, Sandy took off, and he's put Ashley in a nursing home."
Anastasia kept silent, knowing her mom had more to say.
Salma sat down and continued, "Ana, your dad's just so selfish-he hasn't changed a bit. Remember when he had that stroke? Ashley took him in and cleaned up after
him. Now Ashley's in a coma, and he just ships her off to a nursing home. Once she's in there, I doubt he'll ever visit. It's like he's just abandoned
her."
That's what really got to Salma.
After all those years together, Ashley had always treated Tavon well. And now Tavon
was just letting her waste away.
Salma's voice was full of hurt and disappointment.
Anastasia didn't know what to say, so she looped her arm through Salma's. "Mom, don't dwell on it. We both know what Dad's like. Nobody's perfect. Let's just get back to Riverdale—Emmie and Nancy have been missing you, and Pattie called earlier too."
Her kids were Salma's soft spot. Thinking of the three girls, the bitterness in her heart faded a little.
That same day, the three of them headed back to Riverdale. Dailey and Nelson met them at the airport.
Herman turned to Dailey and said, "Take Anastasia and Mom home first."
"Sure thing, boss," Dailey replied.
Anastasia, knowing Herman had business to handle, told him, “Don't go overboard with the drinks tonight."
Herman nodded. "I won't."
Salma and Anastasia got in the car with Dailey. On the way, Salma asked, “Ana, where's your husband off to?"
"He's having dinner with Mr. Walker," Anastasia said, her voice carrying a
Anand. "Mr. Walker's done
