Chapter 1142
Scott was a man who'd seen it all in the business world—the double-dealing, the scheming, and more gold-digging women than he cared to count.
Any other woman would've found an excuse to slip into his bed by now.
But Sandy just fell asleep on the couch, no blanket, nothing.
Something in Scott softened. He quietly got up and gently covered her with a blanket.
Sandy, realizing the charade was up, blinked her eyes open and pretended she'd just woken up. “Mr. Stranz, you're awake! Are you feeling better? You really shouldn't drink so much next time it's not good for you."
Scott immediately put some space between them, settling at the far end of the sofa. "Why are you here? Where's Linda?"
"Linda had something come up, so she left early. I brought you back here with the driver, Xiao Liao," Sandy explained. “He said this is where you usually stay after drinking. I was worried you'd be uncomfortable sleeping in your suit, so I changed it for you. And I got some hangover medicine ready."
"So Xiao Liao told you to bring me back here?" Scott asked, raising an eyebrow. "Did you really stay up all night looking after me?"
Sandy nodded. "It's my job."
That answer made Scott look at her with newfound appreciation.
He grinned, “If it were anyone else, they'd be in my bed, not on the couch. Though honestly, women who end up in my bed don't usually get happy endings."
Sandy put on her best flustered face. "Mr. Stranz, I swear, I never thought about anything like that. I just want to do my job well. I would never cross that line."
Seeing her so nervous, Scott decided not to tease her any further. "Relax, I'm just kidding. Come on, let's get ready for work."
"Yes, Mr. Stranz." Sandy was sharp-she never let her true thoughts show around Scott.
She was hardworking, too. She'd already set out fresh clothes for him and ordered breakfast.
By the time Scott finished getting ready, breakfast had arrived.
He invited Sandy to join him, but she just stood to the side. "You go ahead, Mr. Stranz. I'm fine here."
Her formality put Scott off a bit. What man actually likes a woman who keeps her distance?
But that mix of shyness and reserve was working on him. Scott reached out and gently pulled Sandy down to sit. "Eat with me."
Sandy was secretly pleased-Scott was proving to be even easier to manage than she'd expected.
She sat down, acting all meek and nervous, and seeing her eat gave Scott a weird sense of accomplishment.
Let's be honest-most men can't resist temptation, especially when a beautiful woman is involved.
When a woman goes out of her way to charm a man, it makes him feel powerful. He enjoys it.
Scott's marriage to Juliana was
barely holding on. Divorce hadn't et

crossed his mind yet, but their
relationship was basically just for show.
And what man can go without a woman for long?
Sandy had made quite the impression on him. From that day on, Scott took her everywhere he went.
Juliana texted Sandy every day, asking if there were any "other women" hanging around Scott.
She had no idea she'd let the fox into the henhouse. Scott was already on Sandy's radar.
Spending so much time together, Scott came to admire Sandy's business savvy and decisive nature She always had great ideas, helped him solve tough problems-before long he was relying on her more and more at work.
Juliana, a full-time housewife, couldn't help him with any of that The tension between them only grew after her miscarriage, and the scales in Scott's heart started to tip.
Scott's mother, Mrs. Goad, was over the moon when she heard her son had such a capable and attractive assistant.
As long as Scott was interested in another woman, she thought, maybe she'd finally get a grandchild.
Meanwhile, Juliana was left completely in the dark about her slipping position, running in circles as Sandy played her.
Across town, Autumn had just heard the news that Devin had disappeared.
She went numb, shaking with fear.
She knew-deep down-that Devin's disappearance had everything to do with Mr. Walker.
