The Man Who Destroyed Me Is Now Begging to Mend Me 56
People in Lucas’s friend circle all knew that Gavin Chandler was Emily’s simp. Over the last three years, he racked up more flights to Felarica to see Emily than Lucas ever did.
Too bad for him–no matter how much he tried, Emily still barely acknowledged him. Not long after she returned from abroad, she started dating Lucas at once.
Lucas frowned. “Got it.”
He hung up and called Gavin. It didn’t take long before he heard Gavin’s voice on the other end.
Gavin said, “Lucas, I heard Sophia smashed you last night. You alright?”
“Appreciate it, man. Quick question–on my birthday night, you were the one who took Sophia to the hospital, right?” Lucas asked.
“Yeah, that was me. What’s wrong?” Gavin replied casually.
“I heard she almost lost the baby that night. Is that for real?” Lucas pressed.
“Did Sophia tell you that?” Gavin sounded puzzled. “Nah, man. The doctor said she passed out from her period cramps.”
Sophia had always dealt with nasty cramps, apparently from catching a chill when she was little.
Every month for the past six months, whenever her cramps hit, Lucas would cuddle her to sleep, keeping his hand warm on her lower belly.
Lucas barely hesitated before accepting Gavin’s explanation. “Alright, thanks.”
As soon as he hung up, his anger exploded. He hurled his phone across the room, watching it shatter against the wall.
Lucas thought, ‘I almost let myself feel guilty, thinking I was the one who screwed up. But no–it’s all Sophia’s doing. She’s been playing me this whole time, dragging everyone else into her lies!
Unbelievable. If I don’t teach her a lesson, she’ll think she can keep playing me like a fool!‘
Downstairs, outside the ward. Emily was stopped cold by the bodyguards, her face dark with anger.
She said, “Move away. I need to see Sophia.”
The bodyguards, still smarting from the last incident with Lucas, weren’t about to let Emily through so easily.
Frustrated and unwilling to leave, Emily kicked up a loud commotion in the hallway.
Sophia had barely fallen asleep before Emily’s commotion jolted her awake. She then opened her eyes.
Seeing this, Annabelle said, “Just get some rest. I’ll go deal with her.”
Sophia reached out to stop her and said, “She’s here for David. Trust me, she won’t give up until she sees me.”
“Then I’ll just keep beating her until she gives up,” Annabelle said with a roguish smirk, looking every bit the outlaw.
Annabelle thought, ‘Since they don’t even bother to act like decent people, why should I treat them like they are? That’d make me the crazy one!
Sophia didn’t know what to say.
She sighed, genuinely exhausted from dealing with Emily. She closed her eyes and muttered, “Just don’t kill her.”
“Relax. I got it,” Annabelle replied.
Emily was raising hell in the hallway when the door to the ward suddenly slammed open from the inside.
She stopped dead in her tracks as she saw Annabelle step out, her face instantly pale with fear. She instinctively stumbled
back two steps.
“Ms. Quinn, could you not look at me like that? You’re seriously freaking me out,” Emily stammered.
Annabelle closed the door behind her, determined to keep Emily’s drama out of Sophia’s sight.
“Relax, murder’s illegal. I might just leave your face swollen, that’s all,” Annabelle joked, shooting a look at the bodyguards. “Hold her down for me.”
Emily spun around to run, but the bodyguards were on her in a flash.
Terrified, she shrieked with a pale face, “Annabelle, you fight dirty!”
Annabelle rolled up her sleeves, flashing a savage grin as she stalked toward Emily. “Why bother playing fair with a mistress like you?”
Annabelle thought, ‘If Emily wasn’t always causing drama, Sophie wouldn’t be living in hell right now!
Seeing Annabelle raise her hand, ready to slap her, Emily squeezed her eyes shut and screamed, “Lucas, help!”
Annabelle hesitated for just a split second, but that was all it took. Suddenly, she was shoved aside with such force that her shoulder slammed into the wall. The pain was so sharp that it made her vision go black.
By the time Annabelle snapped back to reality, Lucas’s crew had already slammed her bodyguards to the floor. He was shielding Emily protectively in his arms, rage practically burning in his eyes.
Lucas said, “Annabelle, you’ve gone way too far. Since your parents won’t teach you any manners, I’ll do it for them today.”
Then he barked at his own bodyguards, “Pin her down. Make her apologize to Emily.”
