Chapter 300
But her legs were too weak, and she immediately collapsed back into the chair. She pressed a hand to her lower abdomen, where a dull ache was beginning to throb.
Clifford picked up a few files, ready to leave, then glanced back at her. "Your desk is outside, to the right."
Latisha nodded, her face pale. He had been relentless. Looking at him now, immaculate in his suit, exuding an aura of detached control, one would never imagine the ferocity he possessed in private. For Latisha, it never felt like pleasure; it felt like an assault. There were countless times she thought she might actually die.
Clifford paused for a moment before walking out and closing the door behind him. The moment he was gone, Latisha's body went completely limp. If the chair hadn't been so large, she would have slid to the floor.
Outside the office, Ziven was waiting for him. "Mr. Lambert.” His eyes scanned Clifford from head to toe, but he couldn't detect anything out of the ordinary.
Clifford stopped and glanced at him. Ziven quickly said, "I sent them away for now. Should we reschedule the meeting for tomorrow?"
"Today," Clifford said, walking toward the elevator. "Tell them the meeting is on."
Ziven wanted to die. He had just dismissed everyone, and now he had to call them all back. He could only imagine what they would be muttering about him. But he had no choice but to obey.
When the executives reassembled in the conference room, the resentment in the air was thick enough to cut with a knife, but no one dared to voice their complaints.
Clifford, acting as if nothing had happened, coolly took his place at the head of the table and glanced at Greyson.
Greyson sat to his left, his eyes hidden behind his glasses, his expression unreadable.
"A lot has happened at the company in the last couple of days, as I'm sure you're all aware," Clifford began. "The main purpose of today's meeting is to introduce you to the new CEO of Lambert Group. Mr. Lambert, why don't you introduce yourself."
The emphasis on "new" was subtle but sharp. After all, Clifford was the former CEO, a man who had commanded absolute authority. Now Greyson was taking his place, but under his watchful eye.
Previously, Wallace had been largely hands-off, especially after witnessing Clifford's ruthless
efficiency. He'd believed Clifford et
small share of stocks posed no real threat Who could have imagined he would one day be replaced by his own son?
Greyson stood up and introduced himself with calm composure. He also outlined his strategic vision for the company and his proposed solutions for the recent crisis. He was, without a doubt, a capable and patient man.
Clifford sat with his legs crossed, leaning back casually in his chair, watching Greyson speak with an inscrutable expression.
The meeting dragged on, finally concluding after six in the evening.
Latisha had been sitting in the adjacent office all day. Everything in it was brand new, from the desk to the chair, but there were no files or work for her to do, so she had ended up falling asleep at her desk.
She was woken by the feeling of a hand stroking her hair. Latisha blinked her eyes open and looked up to see Clifford standing over her. She immediately straightened up and got to her feet.
"We're going back to Lambert Manor tonight," he said.
Latisha's expression changed. The thought of Lambert Manor filled her with an inexplicable dread. But Clifford gave her no choice He stated his decision and walked out without a backward glance. Latisha had no option but to hurry after him.
In the car, just as she fastened her seatbelt, she turned and found his eyes fixed on her. To be precise, they were fixed on her neck.
Latisha subconsciously touched the spot. It stung slightly. It must have been where he bit her. She pressed her lips together and pulled the collar of her shirt up higher.
"You've skipped your pills lately, haven't you?" Clifford asked suddenly.
