A jolt went through Latisha. She looked at Clifford nervously, managing a strained smile. She signed, *I'll eat when I get back.*

Clifford's eyes flickered. "Don't."

Latisha froze. He reached out and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, his tone unreadable. "Didn't you say you wanted a girl?"

Latisha went completely still in her seat, unsure how to react. Right. How could she have forgotten? Forgotten that he'd wanted a child, forgotten that they had a child, one that had vanished from this world two months ago.

Clifford's words were a brutal reminder, and a wave of immense grief and bitterness washed over her, lodging in her throat. Tears welled in her eyes, threatening to fall. She really was getting more and more forgetful.

Clifford's brow furrowed almost imperceptibly. He abruptly pulled his hand back, buckled his seatbelt, and drove off.

Latisha turned her face to the window as a tear escaped and slid down her cheek.

...

Soon, they arrived at Lambert Manor. Before they even reached the gate, they saw Yesenia Winslet standing by the side of the road, looking around. Her face lit up when she saw the car.

Latisha's heart clenched at the sight of her. She instinctively glanced at the man beside her. Sure enough, the car slowed and stopped in front of Yesenia. Even with Latisha in the car, he couldn't just ignore Yesenia. He never cared how Latisha felt about seeing her.

The window rolled down, and Yesenia immediately bent over to look inside. The moment she saw Latisha, her smile vanished. "Why are you two together?"

Clifford ignored her question, turning his head slightly. "Is something wrong?"

"I couldn't reach you," Yesenia said. "I was worried you'd done something rash. I went to your villa but you weren't there, so I came here to try my luck and see if anyone knew where you were."

Clifford paused for a moment, then turned to Latisha. "You go on ahead."

Latisha's fingers tightened into a fist, then slowly relaxed. She glanced from Yesenia to Clifford before silently opening the car door. She got out and walked towards the manor's gate by herself.

Yesenia watched her go, a pang of jealousy in her heart. She couldn't pinpoint why. Clifford obviously preferred her. But she was still jealous jealous that

After walking a short distance, Latisha, on some strange impulse, looked back. She saw Yesenia leaning through the car window, her arms wrapped around Clifford in an embrace.

Something sharp pierced Latisha's chest. She quickly looked away and quickened her pace into the manor.

People are unhappy because they want too much. That was true for her, and it was true for Yesenia. They both coveted what the other possessed.

Yesenia, still holding Clifford, tried to kiss him, but he gently pushed her face away with one hand. "Clifford, you won't even let me kiss you!"

"There are paparazzi behind you," Clifford reminded her calmly.

Yesenia blinked and followed his gaze. Sure enough, she saw a figure duck behind a tree. She pouted and let him go "Let them take pictures. I'm noDafraid." Leaning against the car window, she grinned. "You're the one who's afraid, aren't you?"

Clifford leaned back, unconcerned. "What do I have to be afraid of?"

"Exactly," Yesenia said, pulling open the passenger door and grabbing his arm. "Then get out and let them get a good shot of your face."

She was only joking, but to her surprise, he actually got out of the car.

Clifford slammed the door shut, stuck his hands in his pockets, and stood beside her. He glanced at her astonished face. "So, what did you really need?"

Yesenia snapped out of her surprise and wrapped her arms around his waist. "I missed you."

His deep eyes stared at her, saying nothing, but the pressure was immense. Yesenia felt a twinge of guilt and looked away. was just worried about you, that you'@do something reckless. Oh, and also..."
