Chapter 136:

I could hear her heartbeat pounding as she hesitated, almost as if torn between staying and leaving.

It was strange.

Curiosity got the best of me, and I watched her closely. Why did she seem like she was being forced to do something against her will? Why was there fear written all over her?

I nearly jumped when her pen clattered to the floor, breaking the silence.

“I’m sorry,” she mumbled, squatting down to pick it up with trembling hands.

That was it.

Something was wrong.

She didn’t leave. Instead, she walked over to me, placing my file on the table.

Her hands shook as she fumbled with something in a plastic bag.

My brows furrowed in confusion when I saw her draw an injection into a syringe, along with a small bottle of oil.

I watched her swallow hard, her breathing becoming shallow. She turned to me, forcing a smile.

I knew that smile all too well.

It was time for an injection, but I had already finished my treatments.

The only thing I needed were two sessions of massage, which Damon regularly helped me with. Aside from that, I was healed.

“It’s… time, Aurora,” she stammered, tightening her grip on the syringe as she struggled to maintain her composure.

“But you told me yesterday that I was done with drugs and injections,” I said, glaring at her for clarification.

“I said that?” she asked, feigning ignorance. “I was probably tired. I must have mistaken you for another patient.” Her forced smile only made my heartbeat quicken.

A part of me resisted the injection, while another part reluctantly gave in. She was the doctor, after all, and I trusted that she wouldn’t hurt me. Her medications had made me feel better in the past.

I flipped over, lifting my gown to reveal my backside.

Embarrassment washed over me as I felt exposed, my pants discarded beside me. No doubt, she would know about Damon and me.

Her weight shifted on the bed as she adjusted her glasses, pushing them up the bridge of her nose to get a better view. The tension in the air was thick as the minutes dragged on, yet I didn’t feel the needle pierce my skin.

It wasn’t long before she started to sob, pulling away from me.

“Is everything alright?” I asked, pulling my gown to cover my bare skin as I sat up, studying her.

“I’m horrible,” she sniffled, tears staining her cheeks. The door slammed open, causing the syringe to drop to the floor.

The familiar aura of Damon filled the room, and the scent of his presence calmed me.
