Chapter 137:

“What’s going on here?” he demanded, his eyes shifting from the doctor to me, confusion on his face.

“She started crying when she wanted to inject me,” I explained, still feeling confused myself.

Damon’s eyes narrowed as he turned his glare on the doctor. “You told me she was done with her medications, that the only thing she needed were two sessions of massage.”

Thank God Damon was by my side when she said that.

“I…” The rest of her words choked in her throat as she collapsed to the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.

“You better start talking!” Damon growled. His aura was menacing as he grabbed the doctor by the collar of her lab coat and slammed her against the wall.

“I’ll confess. It wasn’t my fault,” she began.

My heartbeat quickened as fear overtook me.

“The mistress ordered me to terminate Aurora… because she posed a threat to her. She told me… to inject her with wolfsbane little by little. She wanted her… to die a slow death,” she stammered, trembling with fear.

Her teeth chattered uncontrollably as Damon’s grip tightened around her neck.

“I swear I couldn’t do it. I can’t take Aurora’s life. I swore an oath to protect, not to destroy. Please, my King, the mistress threatened to kill me if I didn’t get rid of Aurora before tomorrow.”

She paused, gasping for air.

“The mistress is not pregnant. She only had a fever. She’s been wearing a fake bump for months, deceiving you. I don’t know why she wears it, but her pregnancy is a lie.”

My heart sank into the pit of my stomach at the revelation. It was as if I had been hit by a bulldozer.

Rosa wanted me dead?!

Why?

My head began to spin, and I could no longer control my body. It felt like my breath had been seized by an invisible force.

My head grew light as I struggled to breathe. The last thing I remembered was my body crashing to the floor.

Damon

I took a long, satisfying drag from my tobacco before tossing it into the ashtray.

A surge of anger ran down my spine as I slowly released the smoke into the air.

I was wasted.

I didn’t know how long I had been sitting there, staring into space, lost in my thoughts.

I couldn’t even focus on the meeting I had called with the Alphas and council members.

We were barely twenty minutes into the three-hour meeting when I left the hall, retreating to my safe haven. Angry and frustrated, I shut the blinds, letting the darkness consume me.

I didn’t know how long I would stay in my office. Hours? Days?
