Chapter 138:

My phone was off, unreachable.

Alcohol and tobacco became my companions as I wallowed in self-pity. In just a few hours, I had already consumed more than twenty bottles of rum and whiskey. Several packs of empty tobacco lay scattered on the floor.

I couldn’t stop. I kept consuming every last bit.

I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me I was wasted, but I wasn’t drunk. It would take much more than this to get me truly drunk.

Gulping the last bottle of whiskey, I squeezed my eyes shut as the burning sensation traveled from my throat to my chest.

I burped loudly, hissing afterward as the bottle slipped from my grip and shattered on the floor.

“Stupid.” My words were slurred.

My gaze fell to the broken pieces of the bottle scattered across the floor.

Stupid.

Just like me. If I weren’t so stupid, that bitch wouldn’t have been able to manipulate me like that.

Disbelief hit me hard, like a bulldozer.

How had Rosa made me look like such a fool?

How could I not have noticed that she had a fake pregnancy? Was I too caught up in the excitement of finally having an heir, or was I simply stupid?

All my life, no one had ever made me feel like a fool. I was known for my ruthlessness across the world. No one dared to mess with me. But what was happening to me now? How could I not tell the difference between a real pregnancy and a fake one?

Rosa was going to pay for this.

Drowning in a sea of rage, a strange sensation washed over me. Thanks to Rosa, my enemies would mock me and attempt to take over my kingdom now that they knew there was no heir. I could almost feel an invisible hand clenching around my heart, pain surging through me.

The murmurs and gossip wouldn’t stop. My fist clenched into a ball, and I caught glimpses of my reflection in the shattered glass of the bottle. Staring back at me was emptiness and worthlessness. I was the most powerful Alpha King in the world, yet here I was, a king without his heir… and without his mate.

Tears stung my eyes as memories flooded back.

You shouldn’t have left, Ivy.

I felt so empty without her.

At this point, I was consumed by confusion.

“My King,” Jasper’s voice cut through the silence, but I remained silent.

I wasn’t in the mood to see anyone—not even him, my Beta.

“Please, open up,” he pleaded, knocking harder on the door. “I know you’re in there. Just open the door. You can’t hide forever.” His voice softened, a hint of concern slipping through, which only fueled my anger.

I didn’t need his pity.
