Chapter 142
Chapter 142:
“At the expense of her life,” I muttered sadly, staring into space.
I picked up a glass half-filled with whiskey and gulped it down.
“The fact that she is your property doesn’t mean her life is guaranteed. Stop acting like you care about her,” Jasper reprimanded, shooting me a disapproving look. I quickly masked my expression to avoid revealing my thoughts.
I wasn’t ready for Jasper’s questions.
“Make Aurora your breeder and your problems will be solved!”
Aurora
A smile played on my lips the moment Damon’s imposing figure strode into my room. I dropped what I was doing and straightened the gown on my body as I anticipated his arrival. My heartbeat quickened as he approached. Overcome with sudden restlessness, I couldn’t help but fidget. His presence had an effect on me that made invisible butterflies churn in my stomach.
I pressed my inner thighs together as I felt my body react. How did he effortlessly make me feel this way without even saying a word? My heart skipped a beat when his eyes briefly locked onto mine before he looked away.
I couldn’t wait for his minty breath to fan my skin, for his tongue to claim my mouth.
“The nurse said you were awake,” he started, scratching the back of his head in confusion. My gaze dropped as I swallowed hard.
At least the mistress of evil was locked up in the dungeon. How could she think of eliminating me when I had done nothing wrong? Damon was my master. He owned me, and he had the right to my body. My feelings didn’t matter to him, and I had no choice but to obey his commands, whether they were favorable or not.
“Yes, my King,” I replied, standing to my feet as I sensed his discomfort. “Is everything okay?”

“Sit, Aurora!” he commanded, using his Alpha tone.
How did he sound so firm, yet so commanding?
I couldn’t tear my eyes away from his troubled ones as I sat on the bed, my heart racing. The expression on his face gave him away. Something wasn’t right, but I couldn’t figure out what it was.
My excitement slowly faded as curiosity took over. The moment his face hardened and his eyes narrowed, I knew it was bad news.
“You are aware of the recent happenings in the castle,” he said.
Aurora
Damon stopped briefly, observing the curiosity written across my face. “It’s no news that Rosa’s pregnancy was fake and that there is no heir I am expecting,” he said, clearing his throat.
I could tell he was trying to mask his sadness.
My heart thumped loudly in my chest as I processed his words. He rarely spoke to me like this, so why was he explaining everything now? I was his property; my opinions didn’t matter.
“Calm down, Aurora,” I tried to reassure myself, taking slow breaths to calm my racing heart. But anxiety got the best of me, and my nerves were on edge.
