Chapter 143:

“I need an heir!” His voice rose in a demand, sending a chill down my spine.

“And I need him as soon as possible. The people are beginning to murmur. They’re planning a coup to overthrow me since I haven’t produced an heir and their Luna,” he stopped, swallowing hard, as if fighting back the sadness that had gathered in his throat.

That explained it.

Ivy.

He had called me Ivy the day I went to apologize to him. But what happened to her? Why had she stopped being his Luna?

I watched as his eyes blinked rapidly, fighting off tears that threatened to spill.

My face lit up in surprise. This was the first time I had seen him express this kind of pain.

Maybe the rumors about him weren’t entirely true. Known as King Damon, he was feared by many, called terrifying names—Death, Devil, Monster.

Of all the names, he was known as the Demon Alpha King. No one dared cross him, or they’d pay with their blood.

But here he was, wrapped in his pain, haunted by his demons. Perhaps he wasn’t as unbreakable as the world thought. Beneath the fierce exterior, he seemed like an insecure teenager struggling with the weight of his crown.

“That is the last thing that will happen,” he expelled a sharp breath, staring off into space.

The atmosphere shifted, growing tense and making me feel uncomfortable.

“I need you to become my breeder. You will get pregnant this month, and in the next nine months, I want him out, healthy and strong!” he commanded, his tone final and unyielding.

It was as if time had stopped. Everything around me became still. Frozen in shock, my eyes widened as I struggled to digest his words.

I should become his breeder?

Surely, he was joking.

But fear gripped my heart when I saw the expression on his face. I recognized it. He was done talking.

“I can’t become…” I tried to protest, but my voice came out weak. Fear consumed me as his aura filled the room, shifting the atmosphere.

“It was an order, Aurora!” he declared authoritatively, leaving no room for argument. “You are whatever I say you are. I own you, Aurora. You are my property. I am your master and your King.”

Hot tears ran freely down my face at his harsh declarations. He was right. My opinions didn’t matter.

But I didn’t want to become a breeder.

His words were like heavy blows, catching me completely off guard.

Why would he want me to become his breeder? I thought he liked me. I thought there was something—anything—between us. The way he held me, the way he kissed me passionately whenever he took me, it made me believe there was more to it.

But I was wrong.

The life of a breeder was short and cruel. Once the child was born, the mother would be separated from the baby, and then she would be killed before any attachment could form.
