Chapter 87:

“I know, but how is the King?” I asked, my heart racing.

“He is awake and responding to treatment,” she answered coldly, keeping her distance from me. But I didn’t let that affect me. The King’s health was my only concern.

My hands flew to my chest in surprise, and tears of joy cascaded down my cheeks, but it was only a fleeting moment.

Guilt resurfaced within me, pricking my conscience. Without hesitation, I crashed to my knees, clasping my hands together and staring deeply into her confused eyes.

“Please, take me to the King.”

A gasp escaped her throat as she stared at me in shock. “So you can get me in trouble?”

Sadness welled up inside me at her words, but I shoved it aside.

“It’s been weeks. I thought he was dead, but nobody told me anything. Please, Alex, I just want to apologize. Then I’ll come back,” I pleaded desperately, giving her an emphatic look.

A wave of relief washed over me as her eyes softened slightly.

“Fine. But for five minutes.”

My teary face lit up with excitement, and I almost jumped up.

Alex’s words filled me with happiness to the brim.

I couldn’t wait to tell him how bad I felt.

I didn’t care if he would order my execution.

Without wasting time, I followed Alex, ignoring the penetrating and accusing looks the guards shot at me.

“Only five minutes. You better not tell anyone I let you out,” she threatened before leaving me alone, just as I was about to mutter a “thank you.”

With a racing heart, I slowly made my way to where King Damon lay, rehearsing my apology in my mind.

I took light steps to avoid startling him, not wanting to get on his bad side.

Heaving a deep breath, I opened my mouth, but the words eluded me.

I was about to give him a gentle push when his penetrating eyes suddenly snapped open, glaring at me as though he had seen a ghost.

I jumped in fright, fear overtaking me, making me almost fall as I lost my balance.

His large hands caught me mid-air before I hit the floor, and his intense gaze turned passionate, making me stare at him in confusion.

“Ivy,” he muttered, running his rough palm over my face before pulling my fragile body close to his.

Shocked, I froze in place, unable to make a sound as his soft lips brushed against mine before claiming them in a passionate kiss.

Damon

“Aurora,” I moaned against her plump lips, intoxicated by the heavenly scent of vanilla, lavender, and peach that filled my senses, reigniting my desire.

A pang of sadness hit me when I realized I had misidentified her, but I quickly pushed the feeling aside before it could take hold. Her shocked expression spoke volumes.

I hoped she wouldn’t bring up Ivy.
