Empire 105

This chapter makes a quiet but clear adjustment to the story. Small choices and brief pauses point the plot in a new direction. The shift is steady, not loud, and it sets up what comes next.

A few actions and reactions stand out. A held-back answer, a quick decision, or a look that lingers changes how characters see each other. These beats feel small now but carry weight forward.

Emotions sit just under the surface. The tone shows doubt, hope, or pressure even when the words stay measured. What is not said guides the scene as much as what is spoken.

Earlier choices and old tensions shape how people act here. History does not repeat, but it limits and nudges. The present is easier to read when the past is kept in view.

Trust, distance, and leverage shift by degrees. Roles adjust, and the space between characters changes shape. By the end, connections are not exactly what they were.

Objects, gestures, and setting notes do quiet work. They mirror the mood and hint at motives. Paying attention to them clarifies what is at stake.

Short remarks, paused replies, and choices made too quickly point to what will matter soon. The chapter plants markers that future scenes will pick up.

A few sentences carry the heart of the scene. They show fear, resolve, or longing in simple words. These are the lines that will echo next chapter.

For some reason, the more Ramona looked at Ethan’s strikingly handsome, aloof face, the more she

wanted to tease him.

Back when she watched movies like this, Ramona had just wanted a little thrill. But tonight was different. Tonight, she wanted to see Ethan get spooked.

“I don’t believe in ghosts,” Ethan murmured, his eyes leaving the screen to glance at her as she snuggled closer.

The blue light from the TV played across her face, her hair a bit tousled, a hint of tipsy mischief still in her eyes. She looked so beautiful, it was almost distracting.

“Well, Mr. Jordon, you must be braver than me. If I get scared and scream later, you’ll have to protect

me.”

“Alright,” Ethan replied, and without hesitation, he reached over and pulled her gently against his shoulder. “If you’re uncomfortable, just lean on me. That should help you feel safer.”

It really did. As long as Ethan was there, Ramona realized she could barely follow the plot of the horror movie, and nothing seemed frightening anymore.

She let herself fully relax, and before long, her body grew heavier; nestled against his side, she slipped right onto his lap, her head resting across his folded legs.

Ethan paused in surprise and quietly called her name, but Ramona was already fast asleep.

On the screen, the movie had reached its creepiest scene: the ghostly figure was about to appear, and the protagonist was running for his life.

Ethan hurriedly reached for the remote and turned down the volume.

The next morning.

When Ramona woke up, she was curled up in her own soft bed.

Her first thought was of Ethan–they’d been in the living room together last night, cuddled up watching a movie.

She couldn’t remember a thing about the plot, but she did remember how it felt with Ethan by her side.

Ramona crept out of her bedroom and was surprised to see Ethan sleeping on the couch. She’d assumed he’d left long ago.

His shirt was unbuttoned at the collar, a thin blanket thrown carelessly over him. He was curled up on his side. The couch wasn’t small, but next to his tall, broad frame, it looked uncomfortably cramped.

“Mr. Jordon…” Ramona knelt by the sofa, whispering his name.

She felt a twinge of guilt. If she had known he hadn’t left, she would have let him use the guest room. He’d just finished days of nonstop work, and she wasn’t sure if he’d fully recovered from being sick.

But his breathing was deep and even, and Ramona couldn’t bring herself to wake him. Check latest chapters at FιndNovel.net

After that soft call, she simply stayed by his side, her gaze lingering on his face. She hadn’t noticed before how long his eyelashes were, casting faint shadows beneath his eyes.

Without thinking, she reached out, her fingertips brushing lightly over his lashes.

In that instant, Ethan’s eyes fluttered open.

He looked up at her, his gaze still hazy with sleep, but the moment he focused on her, his eyes sharpened and darkened.

He didn’t move, just looked at her as if he hadn’t fully left his dreams, or perhaps he was already wide

awake.

“Checking me out?” His voice was low and husky from sleep, not so much a question as an amused statement, with the faintest hint of a smile.

Ramona’s hand froze in midair, caught red–handed, and she instinctively tried to pull away.

But he was quicker. His warm hand closed gently around her wrist–not forceful, but making it clear she wasn’t going anywhere.

“Where are you going?” His gaze lingered on the warmth rising in her cheeks, his voice dropping lower. “Weren’t you just admiring me?”

Ramona’s blush deepened, and she tried to change the subject. “Why did you sleep on the couch?”

“I was tired,” Ethan replied, his voice quiet. “I just wanted to rest for a bit and must’ve dozed off.”

He sat up, the blanket slipping to reveal the clean lines of his shoulders and back.

“Mind if I use your bathroom?” he asked, glancing toward the kitchen as he stood. “And… I’m a bit hungry. Would I be lucky enough to try your cooking again?”

“Of course.” Ramona nodded, and went to fetch a fresh towel for him.

Soon, Ethan had showered, and Ramona finished making breakfast.

It was simple–just French toast with eggs and grilled tomatoes, served with milk–but arranged neatly on fine plates, sunlight spilling in through the window, the scene felt almost impossibly warm and intimate.

For a moment, Ramona had the strange sensation they were already married and this was their everyday life.

“When we’re married, I hope we can have breakfast together every day,” Ethan said suddenly, his voice calm but sending ripples through Ramona’s heart.

“…Alright,” she answered without thinking.

She wanted this too. Even though it was just a marriage of convenience, spending time with Ethan like this felt so right.

Because it was Ethan–because it was him, it was perfect.

Just after they finished breakfast, Ethan’s phone rang. As he hurriedly straightened his shirt collar but

struggled with the buttons, Ramona stood up and reached out to help.

Ethan froze for a moment, then as he ended the call, he leaned close and said softly, “That movie las night was good. Next time, when you’re not so tired, maybe we can actually finish it together.”

“Did you like it, Mr. Jordon?”

“Yeah, I thought it was pretty interesting,” Ethan replied, not at all dismissive. He even offered a few thoughts about the plot, proving he’d actually paid attention.

Ramona’s face lit up. “I’d like that.”

“But… you’re not scared anymore?”

“With you around, Mr. Jordon, what’s there to be afraid of? You’re better than any lucky charm.”

The scene closes, but its pressure does not. Something has shifted, and the next step will have to meet it. The feeling is unfinished on purpose.

Expect tighter tension and fewer safe options. Hidden truths may press forward. The path ahead should feel earned and a bit sharper.

Which choice will echo the longest? Who revealed the most by saying the least? How might today’s restraint become tomorrow’s turning point?

Rules, memory, and the setting frame each decision. Inside that frame, even small moves gain size. The chapter belongs to its world as much as to its people.

With this chapter done, the story steps forward—quieter, clearer, and ready to show what those choices mean.
