Listen to me 153
Benedict

This week has been stressful, made more so by my frustration with Ellis and my father being in the pack hospital. I knew being away from Sloane would make it harder for me, but I also knew she needed to be in Alphia Waylor’s pack as much as I needed to be in mine, especially since her birthday is this weekend. I have every intention of going to her pack and staying with her the night of her birthday because I expect to be her mat. And since she effectively turns eighteen tomorrow night, or now it’s later tonight, I plan to spend the night with her tonight as well so Marrok and I will know, without a doubt, that
she’s ours.
Bethany has been a lifesaver this week, but I knew when I decided that I couldn’t go see Sloane last night and she said she needed to be in her pack to monitor Gabriel and Jack, that I wasn’t going to sleep. So, when the phone buzzes on the nightstand beside my bed at three in the morning, I snatch it up
When I see her number, I sit up, answering quickly.
“Sloane? What’s wrong?”
“Hey, Benedict,” she says sounding much too awake for someone who should be sound asleep. “I need your help, or more accurately, your support,” she says.
“You know you have it, whatever you
need.”
“Thank you.”
“Tell me what’s going on.”
“We had an incident in the pack earlier tonight. Kaelin got across the borders unannounced and made it to my bedroom…” That’s as far as she gets before Marrok is snarling and I’m leaping out of bed. If he touched what is mine, he’s a dead man.
“Are you hurt? Did he hurt you, Sloane?”
“No, but we’re fairly confident that Gabriel and Jack were part of this.”
“Where are they now?” I ask, pulling on a pair of shorts and grabbing a T–shirt before racing out of my bedroom.
“They’re in the cells. Scarlet knocked them both unconscious,” she says. I can hear the pride in her voice.
“Scarlet is as much of a badass as her Alpha,” I say as I jog down the stairs. “Was it just Kaelin or did he have an army?”
“It was just him, but Benedict …” she begins, then stops.
I narrow my eyes and pick up my pace.
“Tell me,” I growl.
“We think he came here to try and force his mark on me, or …”
Marrok cuts her off as he snarls viciously. I open my mind to the patrols. ‘Has anyone smelled an unfamiliar scent near our boundaries?‘
‘No Alpha,‘ they say.
‘I want to know IMMEDIATELY if you do. Alpha Waylon’s banished son, Kaelin, got into his packhouse tonight. I’m headed over there. Let me know if you hear or see ANYTHING out of the ordinary.’
Tue, Fed TU
Yes, Alpha, they reply.
“Benedict?” Sloane says.
Tin coming to you. Marrok needs to see you more quickly than can run. Let your patrols know I’ll be crossing the borders in a minute,” I say, then hang up, pull my shorts off while running, and barely get them into my mouth before Marrok pulls the shift.
He takes off, running much faster on his four legs than I can on my two. We cross the border in only a couple of moments, and I hear the howl of an intruder, before it abruptly cuts off.
When I race up to the back of the packhouse, Sloane is waiting for me. I shift quickly, letting my clothes and my phone drop to the ground as Marrok and I both look her over. I brush her bar away from her neck, just to make sure that he didn’t try to force his mark on her, then I pull her into my armis.
“Did he touch you?” I snarl. Marrok is still so close to the surface that I almost don’t sound human.
“No. He came into my bedroom, but he left. Aisling woke me and I howled that we had an intruder, Scarlet and I chased him to the river, but I didn’t want to get caught in some sort of ambush or attack from whatever pack he’s living in currently.”
“Smart,” I say, burying my face in her neck and realizing that her scent smells even better than when I saw her yesterday morning.
“Benedict,” she says, her urgent tone finally getting past my concern. I pull back and look at her.
“He knows, Benedict. Aisling could smell that he’s …” she glances around, making sure we’re alone.
I pull her away from the packhouse, away from prying ears.
“He knows I’m related to him. There’s only one way I’m related and that’s if I’m Derrick’s daughter. He knows that I’m a true heir.”
I slide my hand into her hair, needing to touch her. “What are you going to do?”
“Grandpa Waylon agreed that I’m going to take over as Alpha today. We expect Kaelin to return to challenge him. There’s no way he could defeat Kaelin, he’s too old. But if I’m already Alpha he’ll have to challenge me.”
“You’re not eighteen. The pack may not accept you,” I tell her.
“They’ll have no choice. If they don’t like it, they’ll be told to leave. Uncle Roman and Aunt Samara are coming and they’re bringing warriors with them. Scarlet already called her father and he’s sending warriors as well. I will swear my oath as Alpha of this pack today, then tomorrow I’ll go to Uncle Roman’s pack to celebrate my birthday. I know I’m asking a lot, Benedict
“Whatever you need, Sloane. I mean it. Do you need more warriors? You name it, you’ve got
it.”
“I want you and Bethany here, as witnesses, Benedict. I know you need to be in your pack. I know you have so much going on right now…”
“We’ll be here. Ellis can act like a fucking Beta for once and run the pack for a couple of days,” I say.
The tension around her eyes relaxes and she smiles the Sloane smile that very few get to see. Then she leans into me and wraps her arms around my neck as she presses her lips to mine.
“Thank you.”
“Don’t thank me yet. If Kaelin shows his face tomorrow, I may kill him before he has a chance to challenge you.”
She grins at me. “My hero.”

I know she means the words in a teasing way, but they strike straight through to my heart I wrap my arms more tightly around her.
“I want to always be your hero”
She looks at me for a long moment. “Damn, you’re a hard man resist.”
“Good. I don’t want you to resist me. And I’m spending the night tonight, Sloane. Come midnight, we’re going to talk. One way or the other, we’ll know if we’re mates.
She looks away and I reach up, gently pulling her face back to look at
“Sloane?”
“I’m not ready to be marked yet, Benedict. There’s so much we still need to figure out …”
“And we will. Together. I can wait to mark you, as long as there isn’t a threat that someone else will. All the more reason for me to kill Kaelin if he shows his face.” I growl.
“You’d be willing to wait until we figure things out?”
I shrug. “I won’t like it, but it’s Marrok you’ll have to worry about He’s not really a patient wolf when he wants something. And he wants Aisling.”
She runs her nose against mine. “Aisling wants him too. So, once we know for sure, we really need to figure things out.”
“For the record, I don’t care if Marrok doesn’t call Aisling his mate at midnight. I still want you. He will still want her. Call it the early signs of the mate bond, call it intuition, call it love, I don’t care. But we want you, both of you. So yeah, starting tomorrow, we need to figure things out so you agree to let me put my mark right here,” I say, brushing my fingers over her marking spot.
Her body shivers and the scent of her arousal increases.
“Save it for tonight,” I whisper, leaning in to kiss her again. “For now, we both have warrior training. What time should I be back?” I ask when I pull away from the kiss.
“Two o’clock,” she says, then lifts up on her toes and kisses me with the passion that I usually kiss her. I answer with my own passion, Marrok growling possessively as I devour her mouth, our tongues battling for dominance.
When we finally break apart, she smirks and looks down at my very hard erection.
“Too bad you don’t have time to take care of that,” she grins.
“Is that a challenge, Alpha?” I growl.
I watch Aisling flash in her eyes and before she can say another word, I pull her into the shadows and press her against the side of the packhouse.
I slice through her shorts, and kick her legs apart, easily sliding inside her. Then I grab her hips and pull them back.
“My challenge to you, Alpha, is to stay quiet so your warriors don’t hear you as they begin coming outside for warrior training,” I say. Then I begin thrusting hard and fast. I won’t last long, I already knew that, but I can tell by how quickly her inner walls begin fluttering around me that she won’t either.
The first orgasm hits her hard. She keeps one hand against the side of the packhouse, covering her mouth with the other as she comes. I don’t stop, forcing her to ride out her orgasm and bringing her right back up for the next one.
This time, I wrap my hand around her throat and pull her up, pressing her body against the packhouse and taking her mouth with mine as I continue to thrust inside her. She whimpers, reaching back to grab hold of me. When she comes the

second time. I know I won’t be able to hold out again.
I capture her screams with my mouth, and when I’m on the verge of exploding, I pull out, pressing myself against her back and covering her with my sperm.
I kiss her until we both come down, then I slow the kiss, and finally pull away.
“There, now you smell like me.” I say, both Marrok and I feeling much better that she’s covered in our scent. “I’ll see you at two,” I say, before kissing her quickly and going to get my clothes and phone.
I toss her my shirt before shifting and racing back to my own pack to lead warrior training.
There’s only one thought in my mind as I pass from her pack to nine. Damn I love that woman.
