Chapter 1139

Shattered Illusions: Love, Lies, and Redemption · Lizetta

That night, Lizetta had been saved by Nelson and Bernice, who personally rushed her to the hospital.

Because of that, Nelson carried a tremendous amount of guilt regarding the events of that evening. Whenever he thought of it, his eyes would turn red with fury and

profound regret.

Initially believing Martin and his daughter were solely responsible, the old man was so consumed by rage he wanted to fly straight to Zion City to kill them himself. He felt he had failed to protect her and was devastated that she had suffered on her

own.

If he were to discover that Eartha was involved—and that Eartha had been targeting her long before the incident-it would be a devastating blow to Nelson.

"Don't worry. The last time the old man called me, he had plenty of energy to scream at me. Both his physical and mental health are perfectly fine. There's no need to stress over him. Nelson is much tougher than you think. He'll definitely take care of himself and stay healthy, if only to figure out how to destroy me."

"Pfft."

Lizetta couldn't help but laugh out loud, instantly picturing the mental image of the old man chasing Remington around with a cane.

Seeing that she was no longer drowning in distress, Remington handed the phone back to Ray with a sharp order.

"Keep a close eye on both of them."

Ray nodded. "You got it, Boss."

"And what's the situation with Andrea?" Remington asked.

Ray smirked. "Completely under control."

Remington nodded, and Ray turned and left the room.

Lizetta looked up at Remington. "Martin and Eartha really are cut from the same cloth. Why do we always attract these awful people?"

Remington's eyes instantly gleamed with a bright, intense light. "What did you just say, Lizetta?"

"I didn't say anything weird. I was just complaining that we attract awful people." Lizetta looked confused, but Remington reached out, playfully tapping her nose.

"Wrong. That is not the exact phrasing you used! Think about it carefully," the man demanded, clearly unsatisfied.

Lizetta turned her head away. "That's exactly what I said."

"No, you said 'we' as a couple! Don't try to deny it."

Remington cupped her face with a large hand, gently forcing her to look at him, his tone heavy with emphasis.

Lizetta had actually realized her slip of the tongue a moment ago.

But Remington's reaction was ridiculously intense.

Meeting his burning gaze, she finally gave a small nod.

"Fine, it was a slip of the tongue..."

"No. The fact that you instinctively said it means that, deep down, you feel we never actually separated. Deep inside your heart you still see me as your husband isn't that right, babe?"

A wave of absolute euphoria rippled through Remington's chest at this discovery. Lizetta had no idea why he was obsessing over this technicality. She blinked and argued back.

"Absolutely not. It was purely a slip of the tongue. When we divorced you hurt me so deeply hated you to death, Why would subconsciously think of you as my husband? In your dreams!"

Even if she refused to admit it out loud, Remington was already convinced that she felt the exact same way he did-that she had never truly wanted to be with another man.

He shook his head with a fond, helpless smile.

"Alright, fine. But it at least proves that, right now, you consider me your husband, right?"

He took a strategic step back, and this time, Lizetta offered a tiny nod.

Remington instantly grabbed her hand. "Since you already see me as your husband again, doesn't that mean you can wear the ring?"

Ring?

Lizetta froze in surprise.

Without missing a beat, Remington reached into the inner pocket of his suit jacket and pulled something out.

He opened his palm, and the brilliant, dazzling sparkle of a diamond caught the light, shining brightly right in front of Lizetta's eyes.

She looked up in shock. "You've been carrying our wedding rings with you this whole time?"
