Chapter 1140
Lizetta was incredibly familiar with the ring, of course. It was her wedding band.
She just never expected that he had been carrying it with him every single day.
Remington raised an eyebrow. "Is that so surprising? Not only do I carry the rings, but I also keep our marriage certificate with me at all times."
The marriage certificate was safely tucked away inside his briefcase.
Lizetta was utterly speechless.
Remington stood up, gracefully dropping to one knee beside the bed, and took her hand in his.
Slowly, millimeter by millimeter, he slid the diamond ring onto her slender finger, letting it finally return to its rightful owner.
Once the ring was perfectly in place, Remington bowed his head and pressed a tender, lingering kiss to the diamond before looking back up at her.
Lizetta gazed back at him. They shared a knowing smile, and in perfect sync, she opened her hand, intertwining her fingers tightly with his.
The next day.
In Tranquil Meadows, the headquarters of the Madden Group was buzzing with chaotic energy.
The company was holding a pivotal shareholders' meeting to determine the future of the enterprise.
For the past few days, the media had been flooded with reports predicting that the Madden Group was about to change hands, and the internal atmosphere was a boiling pot of anxiety.
The employees were well aware that Chairman Madden was gravely ill, and the Madden family lacked a definitive heir. To make matters worse, the only bloodline of the Madden family, the recently found Florence Madden, had also met with a tragedy.
That left only Jerome. But as the adopted son of the Madden family, despite having managed the company's operations for years, he was severely isolated and powerless without the Chairman's backing.
It was nothing like the Porters. Mr. Porter himself was a board member, and his two sons and son-in-law all held executive positions, granting them a massive collective share of the company.
Under these circumstances, swaying a few stray shareholders would be child's play for them.
"I'm afraid the company is really going to become the Porter Group after this."
An employee sighed, his eyes filled with profound worry.
"Who knows if we'll even get to keep our current benefits. If only Chairman Madden could wake up."
Another employee whispered a somber agreement.
Nelson Madden was a notoriously ethical entrepreneur and philanthropist in Tranquil Meadows. For decades, the companies under the Madden Group boasted the best employee benefits in the industry.
Furthermore, in an era of
hyper-productivity where every other
corporation glorified grueling
overtime, Nelson had always
staunchly opposed exploiting his
workers. His care and respect for his
employees were entirely genuine.
Because of this, the workforce desperately prayed the Madden Group wouldn't fall into new hands.
Tragically, these decisions were entirely out of the hands of everyday workers, leaving them with nothing to do but sigh in resignation.
The Madden family were such wonderful people-how could they end up facing such a bleak, tragic downfall?
Meanwhile, on the top floor, inside the grandest executive boardroom, the decisive meeting was about to commence.
The directors of the Madden Group
had taken their seats. The
l.ne
atmosphere was stiflingly tense, as the board members had already anticipated today's grim outcome
Still, a few couldn't resist murmuring amongst themselves.
"The Chairman definitely left a will. If he left his shares entirely to Jerome, and if Conrad West holds his ground, we might actually see a different outcome."
"Who can say? But it's highly unlikely..."
Previously, Nelson held 25% of the company's shares, Bernice held 10%, and Jerome held 5%.
Later, when they found Lizetta, Nelson immediately transferred 10% of his shares to his granddaughter.
In total, the Madden family controlled 40% of the company.
Conversely, Mr. Porter and his two sons held a combined 22%.
As the former son-in-law of the Madden family, who later married into the Porter family, Conrad West held 8% of the shares.
Of that 8%, 5% had been inherited directly from his late ex-wife, Elsa Madden.
