Chapter 11
Chapter 11:
Aiden’s gaze lingered on Janice’s departing figure, his eyes narrowing thoughtfully. Despite her mundane background, there was something about her that seemed profoundly intricate. “Dig into Janice’s history. I want every detail uncovered,” he instructed crisply.
“Understood.”
Something about Janice felt oddly familiar to Aiden, echoing a presence from his past.
She reminded him of the woman who had rescued him from a near-fatal car crash years back.
Although the trauma of the accident had clouded his memory, preventing him from recalling her face, he remembered she was strikingly beautiful.
Like an angel, she had pulled him out of the endless chasm, just as despair threatened to consume him entirely.
“I will find you.” Aiden’s gaze sharpened, his voice laced with resolve. For three long years, his thoughts had been haunted by her image, turning her into his relentless obsession.
The buzz of anticipation filled the air as the fashion design competition was poised to commence.
Around the venue, guests settled into their seats, eagerly awaiting the introduction of the notable attendees.
Having just soothed Delilah, Laurie strode to the judges’ table and seated herself with an air of unmistakable confidence.
She cast a brief, knowing smile towards the vacant chair next to her. Aside from JE, she garnered the most attention in the room. Her presence even eclipsed the other judges, bolstered by a stellar career adorned with numerous international accolades. Yet, the absence of JE lingered in the air like a thick fog. Laurie had been looking forward to proposing a collaborative endeavor to JE during this break.
As these thoughts swirled in her mind, Janice appeared before her.

Laurie’s expression turned stern, her tone icy as she demanded, “What are you doing here?”
Janice positioned herself in front of Laurie and responded with unruffled composure, “I was invited here as a distinguished guest.”
“You?” Laurie scoffed with disbelief. “What talents do you possess, Janice, aside from flaunting yourself and charming men?”
Shaking her head slightly, Janice let out a disappointed sigh. “Mrs. Edwards, your family is so well regarded. How can you not be embarrassed by such crude words?”
“Did I say anything wrong?” Laurie retorted, rising to her full height, arms folded defiantly. “Without the Green family’s backing, do you really think you’d be invited here? It’s astonishing how you’ve managed to captivate Aiden…”
Janice’s patience snapped, and she sharply slapped Laurie across the cheek.
Shock etched itself on Laurie’s face as the reality of the slap sank in.
Janice had not only struck her physically but had also dealt a severe blow to the pride of the Edwards family in such a public setting.
“Shut the hell up unless you want to get your ass kicked out! Act like a damn judge, not a noisy pest!” Janice shot back, her retort catching Laurie completely off guard.
Laurie was taken aback. Janice had once been a timid girl, always eager to please, but now she wielded her words like daggers, her demeanor bordering on aggressive.
This confrontation unfolded under the watchful eyes of esteemed guests, yet Janice seemed unfazed by the gravity of the event.
