Have you been studying them to refine your approach to wooing her?” Nina’s observation made Aiden’s cheeks turn red with embarrassment. He never expected his mother would go through his room and find those novels. How could he face anyone now?

“Aiden, what’s with that look? I’m your mother. Do you honestly think I would make fun of you? Alright, enough of that. Let’s eat.”

Leaving Aiden confused, Nina turned her focus back to showering Janice with attention.

“Where’s Sierra?” Janice asked curiously. “Aiden mentioned you invited Sierra to join us for the meal today.”

Nina’s face clouded over, and she shook her head. “Sierra has been rather distant lately. She often doesn’t respond to my messages. Even when I hinted that you’d be here today, she didn’t show much interest.” Janice’s brow creased in confusion. Sierra would normally have hurried over as soon as she heard of the news. Nina’s mention of Sierra’s lack of response raised her suspicions.
