Chapter 112
Chapter 112:
That was just wishful thinking on her part.
She was about to bend down to grab her crutch, only to find someone had already picked it up for her.
A new umbrella appeared above her, shielding her from the rain that had grown heavier by the second.
She squinted and finally saw the person standing before her. He was impeccably dressed in a tailored suit, his presence radiating sophistication. His hair was styled neatly today, revealing a high forehead that only enhanced his mature charm.
But his eyes, as they looked down at her, were cold and distant.
“Cristian?” Fernanda stared at him. “What are you doing here?”
Without saying a word, Cristian stepped closer, wrapped an arm around her waist, and effortlessly lifted her off the ground.
As she was pulled against him, she could faintly smell whiskey on him.
His breath.
He had definitely been drinking.
Cradling her in his arms, Cristian hurried to a nearby corridor for shelter and carefully lowered her to lean against the wall.
He removed his jacket and draped it over her shoulders, buttoning it up with a steady hand.
Beneath the jacket, he wore a black shirt and a silver tie, the tie clip catching the light just enough to enhance his polished, refined appearance.
“What a surprise! What brings you here?” Fernanda asked again.
“Just business,” Cristian replied, his tone blunt. His eyes narrowed slightly, locking onto hers with an intensity that made Fernanda feel uneasy. “Who was that man?”
“Someone I don’t know,” she replied truthfully. “I thought he was someone else.”
Cristian’s brow twitched with confusion.
From a distance, he had seen Fernanda standing under the corridor, and he was just about to walk over to say hello when something unexpected happened. She suddenly rushed into the rain, grabbing a man by the arm.
They exchanged a few words, but before he could make sense of it, the man walked off. Fernanda remained in the rain, appearing small and vulnerable in her soaked clothes.
His heart tightened at the sight, driving him to rush over and shield her from the downpour.
And now, she was telling him she had mistaken the man for someone else?
Who was she really looking for? And why had it been so important that she ran out into the storm for him?
“Who were you searching for?” Cristian asked. “Tell me, and I’ll help.”
