Chapter 113:

“You find them.”

“An old friend I haven’t seen in ages.”

“Someone you just can’t forget?”

“Yes,” Fernanda replied quietly, nodding. It was true—she couldn’t forget Mr. Bernard, not after all he had done for her.

He had been her mentor, the one who had shaped so much of her life.

Cristian’s expression darkened even further, and Fernanda couldn’t help but feel that it was now even gloomier than the stormy sky overhead.

A man who had clearly made a lasting impression on her…

Suddenly, Cristian felt a knot of unease twist in his stomach. He rubbed his temples, the tension in his mind building in a way he wasn’t accustomed to.

Cristian ran a hand through his hair, his fingers brushing his scalp in frustration. He took a deep breath, pulled out a cigarette, and lit it with a flick of his lighter.

After taking a quick puff, he glanced at Fernanda and snuffed it out.

“Are you headed home? Let me give you a ride,” Cristian suggested. The rain was still coming down in torrents, and Fernanda accepted his offer.

Inside the car, the sound of the rain was muffled, creating a peaceful, almost serene atmosphere between them. The scent of earthy perfume mixed with a subtle hint of alcohol hung in the air. Cristian kept the car silent, neither music nor words breaking the stillness as he drove.

As they reached the entrance to Dawn Villas, Cristian slowed the car but didn’t drive in. Instead, he parked by the side of the road.

Fernanda, sensing something was off, turned to him and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Cristian placed his arm on the steering wheel, leaned back, and stared out at the rain, the wipers swishing rhythmically.

“I’ve been thinking during the drive, and I can’t help but wonder,” Cristian said, his tone calm yet charged. “Who is this person you can’t seem to forget?”

“I told you, just a friend,” Fernanda replied.

“Just a friend?” Cristian raised an eyebrow, turning to face her. “Do ordinary friends get this kind of attention?”

He remained persistent, awaiting an answer that would put his curiosity to rest.

“If I run into this friend again, I’ll make sure to introduce you,” Fernanda offered.

“I’m not exactly excited to meet them.” Cristian pressed his lips together, his face showing clear disapproval.

Despite his irritation, Fernanda couldn’t help but find this side of Cristian unexpectedly charming.

“No, it’s not for you to meet them,” Fernanda said with a smile, her voice playful. “It’s for me to introduce you to my friends. What do you think of that?”
