Chapter 155:

“Nope, I’ve been snacking all morning,” Sloane replied casually.

Fernanda could vouch for her—Sloane’s grazing habits were well-documented.

It wasn’t long before the table was nearly cleared of food.

Embarrassed, Sloane felt reluctant to call the waiter for yet another round. They’d already ordered extra once, and she didn’t want to draw attention to the fact that the four of them—being girls—had eaten so much.

Sloane hesitated before setting her fork down.

As they wrapped up their meal and discussed plans for the afternoon, a sharp whistle broke through their chatter.

Fernanda turned, catching sight of a group of boys lingering nearby.

Bonita’s expression soured instantly, her distaste unmistakable.

“Bonita, why didn’t you invite me to join you? I could’ve treated you,” one of the boys said, swaggering up to their table. He wore a graffiti-print T-shirt and leaned over the back of Bonita’s chair, invading her space.

“Get off me!” Bonita snapped, shoving his head away. “Don’t get so close.”

Instead of retreating, the boy chuckled and leaned in even closer, his grin full of mischief.

“Why aren’t you answering my calls or replying to my messages?” he asked, his tone teasing. “I had to ask your roommates where you were eating. If not for them, I wouldn’t have found you.”

“Can you stop sticking your nose into my business?” Bonita shot back, her voice sharp with irritation. “We have nothing to do with each other. Just leave me alone, okay?”

“No chance,” he said, slinging an arm over her shoulder like it was his right. “I’ve missed you. It feels like forever since I last saw you.”

Bonita wriggled in her seat, trying to free herself, but the boy clung to her like a stubborn shadow.

By now, heads were turning their way. Bonita’s cheeks flushed deep red, the embarrassment spreading down to her neck.

“Let go,” she whispered, her voice trembling as tears threatened to spill.

In the crowded room, Bonita felt trapped, unwilling to cause a scene and disrupt others over her personal problems. The boy seemed to sense her reluctance to make a scene, and he grew bolder, leaning in so close that she could barely turn away.

Bonita’s hands tightened into fists, her knuckles pale from the strain.

“Hey,” Wendy said sharply, her calm voice cutting through the tension. She sat across from Bonita, her expression firm. “She told you to let go. Didn’t you hear her?”

The boy turned to Wendy with a scowl. “What I do isn’t your business,” he snapped. “Just eat your food and keep out of it.”

“Don’t talk to my friend like that!” Bonita interjected, her tone desperate. “If you’ve got a problem, take it up with me!”
