Chapter 160:

“I came to see you,” Beckett said with a soft laugh. “You thought I was at the police station, huh?”

“What do you want from me?” she demanded, her tone shaky but determined.

He reached out, his hand brushing her cheek.

The touch was light, almost tender, but it sent an icy wave of dread through her. Her body tensed, every instinct urging her to flee. But she felt like a helpless doll in his grip, trapped and unable to break away no matter how much she fought.

“You think I need a reason?” he asked softly. “I missed you, that’s all. Without a word, you applied to a university in Esaham. Did you think I wouldn’t find out? Are you running away from me?”

His voice dipped lower, rough and sinister, wrapping her in a suffocating cocoon of unease.

Her eyes adjusted, and Beckett’s face emerged from the shadows—familiar yet twisted into something unrecognizable.

“Why… why won’t you let me go?” Bonita’s voice cracked, a sob breaking free. “I’ve stayed by your side all these years. Can’t I just have a little freedom in college? Please?”

“Freedom?” Beckett repeated, wiping a tear from her cheek with his thumb. “Who said you couldn’t have it? Go wherever you like. Just remember—your heart stays with me.”

Bonita shuddered.

“I heard something interesting today,” Beckett said suddenly, shifting the conversation. “I heard you’ve taken up gaming. That’s quite new.”

“I just… wanted to try it,” she stammered.

“Lying doesn’t suit you,” Beckett remarked. His hand suddenly shot out, gripping her neck and pinning her against the wall.

The cold surface pressed into her back, amplifying the icy fear coursing through her veins.

Bonita’s mouth opened in a silent cry, her lungs burning as the air…

“You refused to come.”

“I know about the streamer you like,” Beckett hissed, his tone dark and accusing. “You’ve been showering him with virtual gifts. Bonita, when did you become so generous? Why wasn’t I informed?”

The edges of her vision blurred as she clawed at his hand, her body thrashing in a desperate bid for air.

“You never listen, do you?” Beckett said with a sigh.

With a swift motion, he reached into Bonita’s bag and pulled out her phone.

He loosened his grip on her just long enough to lift the device and unlock it by holding it up to her face.

Bonita crumpled to the ground, drained and gasping for air, but even in her weakened state, she lunged to grab the phone back.
