Chapter 170:

“The perks you proposed are good, as they genuinely take the employees’ interests into account,” Rosita said, eyeing Fernanda carefully. “But do you really believe it’s so simple to be an honest media outlet? In an era where traffic is everything, if our news and information don’t spark conversations and draw in views, it’s all for nothing.”

“But does that mean we should abandon our conscience for the sake of trends and views?” Fernanda countered. “Look at the recent stories Entertainment Today ran about me. They made me out to be uneducated and immoral. I have the power to clear my name, but what about others who don’t? They might be forever stuck with those misleading reports.”

Fernanda’s eyes turned icy, her words sharp and biting, like a cold wind that made Rosita’s face burn with discomfort.

“Rosita, what does the media really stand for? It’s meant to reflect the voice of the public, not to serve as a self-righteous platform where you can point fingers using your words. The purpose of the news is to report the truth, not to sway emotions. Yet, you haven’t even met the basic journalistic standards. How can you even call yourself a media professional? Frankly, some of you lack morals and compassion.”

Rosita shot up from her seat, her voice growing louder. “Fernanda, you’re being too harsh!”

“Am I too harsh, or is guilt creeping in?” Fernanda shot back with a light chuckle. “I hope you’ll take some time to think about what I said when you head back. See if you can find anything wrong with my words. If you still believe there’s nothing wrong with your approach, then clearly, we’re not on the same page. And at that point, I’ll have no choice but to ask you to leave.”

Rosita’s expression immediately hardened. “What, are you threatening to fire me?”

Fernanda casually leaned back, swaying in her chair as a smile curved her lips. “This is my company. I make the rules. If someone doesn’t fit with my vision, I’ll have to part ways with them.”

“You’re being too controlling!”

Rosita had never faced anything like this. For years, as the editor-in-chief, her bosses consulted her when making decisions. Fernanda was unlike any boss she had ever encountered.

“Making decisions is my right because I’ve earned it,” Fernanda replied calmly. “If you’re not convinced, take my position. When you’re in my seat, you can handle things your way.”

With that, she stood up, signaling she was ready to leave.

She knew Rosita was clever enough to consider her words carefully. As Fernanda reached the door, she suddenly remembered the two custard buns still on the table and turned back to grab them.

“By the way, today is my first day here, and some policies will start from today,” Fernanda added, glancing at Rosita. “From now on, we will not engage with unrealistic, malicious rumors. No matter how tempting the offer, we won’t engage.”
