Chapter 200
Chapter 200:
His second attempt was no better.
The third time, he managed to get it closer, spilling just on his chin, but he still couldn’t get a taste of the oatmeal.
Unable to watch his struggle, Fernanda took the spoon from him, scooped up some oatmeal, and guided it towards his mouth. “Open up.” Neal obliged.
It hurt a bit to move his abdomen, so he chewed slowly and swallowed cautiously.
Initially, he wasn’t very hungry, but the taste of the oatmeal sparked his appetite, and he ended up finishing the whole bowl.
Now he was in a much better mood.
“Maybe we should invite Bonita in to join us,” Neal proposed hesitantly. Fernanda shot him a look of approval before stepping out to call Bonita.
At that moment, Bonita was sitting outside, quietly wiping away tears. She quickly dabbed her eyes dry when Fernanda called her.
Upon entering the room, Bonita cast a cautious glance at Neal. Since he wasn’t speaking to her, she remained silent too.
Did Bonita feel nervous around Neal? Fernanda recalled how Bonita was always so lively when speaking with them, so why, then, did she become so quiet in Neal’s presence?
“You skipped breakfast, so you must be hungry,” Fernanda said as she opened several lunch boxes for Bonita. “You should eat.”
Bonita nodded quietly, picked up a box, and ate discreetly, careful not to disturb Neal’s peace.
Her appetite was minimal, and she barely managed a few bites before setting the box aside. Eventually, she couldn’t hold back her concern. “How are you feeling now, Neal? Does it still hurt anywhere?”
“I’m fine. Thanks for asking,” Neal replied coldly. “Well, I’d feel even better if you kept your distance from me.”
Bonita’s expression wavered, her eyes glistening as if she were on the brink of tears again.

Noticing this, Neal clicked his tongue in annoyance.
What was there to cry about, really?
“Why are you crying?” he asked irritably. “I’m the one who’s hurt, lying here, not you.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Bonita’s tears began to flow freely. “It hurts me to see you like this,” Bonita explained, dabbing at her tears. “It’s painful seeing you hurt.”
“Don’t feel bad for me. I can’t handle it,” Neal replied, wanting to gesture but remembering he couldn’t move easily.
He used his expression to convey his frustration. “Bonita, we’re not close. I appreciate that you like me, but the feeling isn’t mutual. You should let go. It’s better for both of us.”
“It’s okay if you don’t like me now. Maybe you’ll feel differently later,” Bonita whispered.
“That won’t happen,” Neal said bluntly.
He had already been attacked just because he didn’t reciprocate her feelings. If he changed his mind, wouldn’t it just complicate things further?
Neal believed that love wasn’t all that important; what truly mattered most was life itself.
