Chapter 201:

“Honestly, I don’t like you at all. I even find you irritating,” Neal continued, unleashing his harshest words. “You’re not my type. You’re the opposite of what I find appealing. Even if you have feelings for me, it won’t change mine. Understand?”

“Then what type do you like?”

“I like sophisticated women,” Neal fibbed. “Someone beautiful, with long legs, not someone youthful like you.”

Bonita glanced down at herself, then over at Fernanda, and seemed to grasp his meaning.

Neal turned away dismissively. “You should leave now, and don’t come back. I don’t want you here.”

Bonita’s eyes welled up once more, but she restrained her tears, knowing that he didn’t appreciate girls who made scenes and preferred mature ones.

“I get it,” Bonita said quietly, rising to her feet. “I’ll go now.”

“Leave, and don’t come back. Don’t try to reach out to me either. I hope we never meet again.” Neal sighed with relief. Finally, he could be free of her.

Being hit was a small price to pay if it meant she would leave him alone for good.

Bonita exited the hospital room with her head lowered, while Fernanda stayed behind, confronting Neal. “Why keep the truth from her? If she realized that her crush on you caused your injuries, perhaps she’d stay away from you, for your sake.”

“Do you think so?” Neal responded skeptically. “I’m worried that she’d only feel obligated to look after me, complicating things further. I can’t risk it.”

He then turned to Fernanda with a stern look. “And you, don’t let her know, agreed?”

“Understood,” Fernanda said with a nod.

Realizing this was a personal matter for Neal, Fernanda decided to respect his wishes and keep silent.

Outside the hospital, Fernanda found Bonita slumped against the wall, her spirits crushed. Approaching her, Fernanda offered a comforting touch on the shoulder. “Come on, let’s go.”

Bonita attempted a reassuring smile, yet it turned out more sorrowful than cheerful.

As they stepped out of the hospital, they were greeted by the fresh air, a welcome change from the sterile scent they had left behind. They flagged down a taxi. During the ride, Bonita remained quiet.

She lowered her head and fiddled with her fingers, looking preoccupied. The taxi dropped them off at Fernanda’s school’s main entrance, as their schools were located directly across from one another.

“Can we talk for a moment?” After getting out of the taxi, Bonita didn’t immediately go back to school. She looked at Fernanda with red eyes and said, “There are some things I don’t know who else to talk to about.”

“Of course,” Fernanda responded, gesturing toward a bench under a plane tree. “Let’s sit there.”

Settling on the bench, Bonita leaned in close, biting her lip and blinking back tears before confessing, “I think I know who might have attacked Neal.”

“Who do you think it was?” Fernanda asked.
