Chapter 234
Chapter 234:
“Could your stories be a bit exaggerated?” Fernanda asked, half-joking yet partly concerned. “Could Cristian really have been that awful?”
“I witnessed it all firsthand. How could it be anything but true?” Bobby insisted.
“And what came next?”
“Well, after that, I don’t really know.” Bobby shrugged. “There was a long period I didn’t see him. My uncle had sent him off to study. It was years before we met again. When we finally reconnected, I was astounded to see how much he had changed.”
“It’s really hard to believe,” Fernanda said. “That someone with such a troublesome past could turn out so remarkably well.”
“Right, no one saw it coming, not even us. He transformed so much, it’s like he’s not the same person anymore,” Bobby said with a chuckle, his tone playful yet tinged with irony.
“So why mention his difficult childhood then?” Fernanda pressed. “From your stories, it sounds more like you all were the ones struggling, overshadowed by his wild behavior.”
Bobby gave a solemn shake of his head. “It’s not that simple. Cristian was often bullied. Plus, my aunt died during his birth, which led my uncle to resent him from the day he was born. Also, that was the same year the Reed family business began to falter. My grandfather even consulted a fortune-teller who labeled Cristian as a bad omen, bringing misfortune upon us all. Growing up in such an atmosphere, could you say Cristian had it easy?”
“What happened next?”
“Well, swayed by superstition, the Reed family decided to send Cristian away. Oddly enough, the family’s fortunes began to improve almost immediately after that. This only made them believe more firmly in the fortune-teller’s claims.” At this point, Bobby sighed.
It was then that Fernanda understood her knowledge of Cristian was merely superficial.
She had never imagined that his childhood was fraught with such challenges.
“Cristian himself might never share these stories, which is why I am,” Bobby continued. “I hope it gives you a sense of empathy towards him.”

Understanding Cristian’s past could help Fernanda interact with him more kindly.
Although she wasn’t in love with him, pity was a start.
Fernanda was known for her resilience, and Bobby believed she would not be easily intimidated by Cristian’s past.
“Alright, I get it,” Fernanda responded. “I’ll make sure to treat him better from here on out.”
Their discussion led Fernanda to a revelation—she and Cristian shared similarly troubled pasts.
Despite their struggles, both had managed to not lose their way. This shared experience could be the key to bringing them closer, building mutual understanding and empathy.
Bobby, having received the response he hoped for from Fernanda, finally exhaled in relief.
He ran his fingers through his hair, faced the sea breeze, and took several deep breaths.
“Fernanda, I suddenly feel lighthearted, like I’m free from all burdens,” Bobby said in a relaxed tone. “Until tonight, I often wondered what meeting my fiancée would be like. I’ve been dodging her, but I know not everything can be avoided. When it’s time to deal with things, I have to face them.”
