It was clear—her feelings for Cristian had shifted.
Ector sighed quietly, feeling the need to share something with her.
“Fernanda, has Cristian ever mentioned a name—Jordyn Becker?”
“No,” she shook her head. “Who’s that?”
“She’s Cristian’s closest female friend,” Ector said slowly. “And she’s about to come back soon.”
Ector’s words caused a subtle stir in Fernanda’s chest.

Somehow, a faint sense of frustration tugged at her heart, but she held herself together. Ector, watching her intently, didn’t seem to notice.
“I’m not familiar with her,” Fernanda said quietly, her gaze lowering. “Why are you asking?”
“Jordyn’s someone Cristian met when he studied abroad,” Ector said. “They spent a lot of time together and grew very close. And there’s something else I’ve heard…”
Ector hesitated for a moment, his silence prompting Fernanda to ask, “What is it?”
“I heard they actually lived together while they were abroad.” A brief flicker of surprise flashed across Fernanda’s face, but it vanished so quickly that Ector almost wondered if he had imagined it.
“I see,” Fernanda said, a small smile tugging at her lips. “It sounds like they’re really close. It’s nice to have a close friend.”
“Fernanda, I’m not telling you this to make you feel happy for Cristian,” Ector said carefully. “I want you to understand him more clearly, to really see what your relationship with him is. Most importantly, I don’t want you to get hurt or misled.”
Ector had always cared deeply for Fernanda.
His greatest wish was for her to lead a peaceful, stable life, free from struggles.

“I get it, Ector,” Fernanda replied quietly, giving him a soft smile. “Thanks for sharing this with me.”
Ector nodded with a slight smile. “You’re smart. I trust you’ll figure it out on your own. Just, before you make any decisions, take the time to think them through.”
“Okay.”
“It’s getting late. You should rest,” Ector suggested. “I’ll take you back to school tomorrow.”
Once Fernanda was back in her room, she drew the curtains shut.
Sleep didn’t come easily, as Ector’s words kept echoing in her mind. Cristian had a close female friend—someone he had shared a life with for years while studying abroad.
It sounded like they were more than just friends.
Fernanda rolled over in bed and reached for her phone, scrolling through her contacts until she found Cristian’s name. She desperately wanted to call him, to ask about Jordyn, to get answers.
