Chapter 241
Chapter 241:
But no matter how much she tried to convince herself, she couldn’t bring herself to press the call button.
What would be the point? Ector’s words had already made everything clear—Jordyn was Cristian’s close, intimate friend.
What could she even ask? If they were close? If they’d lived together?
Or what their relationship would look like now that Jordyn was back?
Fernanda couldn’t force herself to ask any of these questions out loud. But then again, it wasn’t completely out of place for her to ask. Cristian had confessed his feelings, telling her he liked her. Asking about the people in his life didn’t seem all that unreasonable.
Fernanda rolled over in bed again, silently counting to steady her nerves before she finally pressed the call button.
She told herself she would keep it calm, making it sound like nothing more than genuine concern.
With a deep breath, she pressed the button, holding her breath as she waited for Cristian to pick up.
Cristian picked up almost immediately, his warm, soothing voice coming through clearly.
“Hey, what’s up? Why are you still awake so late? Is everything okay?”
“Well, I need to ask you something,” Fernanda answered.
Her response made Cristian sense her seriousness. He put down the pen he had been using and asked earnestly, “Go ahead, tell me what’s on your mind.”
“I heard a name earlier,” Fernanda said. “Jordyn.”
“Yeah, so?” Cristian replied.
His voice remained calm, with no trace of surprise, hesitation, or defensiveness, as if there was nothing he needed to hide. This made Fernanda wonder if she had been overthinking it.

Her face flushed slightly, a touch of embarrassment creeping in.
Her breath, just a bit uneven, came through the line, and Cristian heard it clearly. He lowered his gaze, thinking for a moment, then understood exactly what she was getting at.
The corners of his lips lifted into a soft, relaxed smile. Leaning back in his chair, he tossed his pen aside and gazed up at the crystal chandelier above him.
“I studied abroad, Jordyn was one of my schoolmates,” Cristian began. “We were part of the same study group and spent a lot of time together, mainly because we shared the same mentor. The rest of the group was made up of students from other countries, so naturally, we ended up connecting more, being from the same place. On top of that, we lived in the same neighborhood, which might have made our relationship seem closer than it actually was.”
His voice, smooth and warm like aged wine, had a calming effect, settling Fernanda’s restless thoughts.
“I heard you two lived together,” she said, though hesitant.
“We lived in the same neighborhood, but ‘living together’ is a bit of a stretch,” he explained. “She was going through some family stuff, so I did look out for her. But it was really just out of compassion for her—nothing more.”
