Chapter 246
Chapter 246:
Fernanda quickly realized that words wouldn’t fix this—she had to act. Without hesitation, she grabbed Beckett’s wrist, twisted his arm behind his back, and kicked the back of his knee, making him drop to the floor. With one hand, she held his head down, pressing his face against the icy cement.
The chill of the hard floor against his skin seemed to jolt Beckett out of whatever rage he was in.
When his eyes focused, he saw Bonita huddled on the floor, crying her heart out.
His jaw clenched, and his gaze fixed on her with such intensity that it sent a cold shiver down Fernanda’s spine.
Without hesitation, Fernanda turned his face away, making sure he couldn’t look at Bonita again.
“Seriously?” Fernanda snapped, her voice icy. “What kind of person thinks it’s okay to hit a woman?”
Beckett didn’t bother with a reply. He squirmed in her grip, growling, “Let me go already!”
There was no way Fernanda was letting him go—not when she could feel the anger radiating off him. She wasn’t about to give him another chance to hurt Bonita.
But to her surprise, Bonita slowly got up, her shaking hand lightly tugging at Fernanda’s arm. “It’s okay,” she murmured. “Let him go.”
Fernanda frowned, taking in the handprint on Bonita’s cheek, her messy clothes, and the bruises on her arms. She looked so fragile, which was heartbreaking.
Noticing Fernanda’s worried stare, Bonita forced a weak, trembling smile—one that looked more painful than reassuring. “Really, I’m fine. Just let him go, and let’s get out of here. I don’t want to stay here anymore.”
Bonita, so small and timid, spoke with such quiet sadness that it only made her look more vulnerable.
Fernanda reluctantly let Beckett go—not because she was afraid of him, but because she worried about what he might do later if she fought back. She couldn’t always be there to protect Bonita.
Beckett stumbled but caught himself, leaning against the wall as he pushed himself upright.

“You’d better think twice before you try something like this again,” Fernanda said firmly, her eyes cold. “It’s one thing to mess with Bonita a few times, but don’t make the mistake of doing it again. Now she’s my friend, and I won’t just stand by if you ever hurt her again. If I find out you mess with her again, you will regret it.”
Beckett shot Fernanda a dark, threatening glare, clearly unimpressed by her words.
“Oh really?” he scoffed. “Alright, let’s see how you plan to handle me then.”
He glanced past Fernanda at Bonita, who stood behind her.
His glare was icy and sharp, like a snake poised to strike. Beckett said, jabbing a finger in Bonita’s direction, “You just love defying me, don’t you? You’ve really got guts.”
Bonita’s entire body shook as she shrank back, hiding behind Fernanda like a scared child.
“Oh, so now that you’ve got some muscle backing you up, you don’t care about me anymore?” Beckett snarled, stepping closer, his tone dark and threatening. “Let’s see how long your little bodyguard sticks around.”
