Chapter 380
Chapter 380:
Beckett crouched down and picked up the red berry. The bright red strawberry seemed out of place among the green matcha hues. In that moment, he couldn’t help but feel that the strawberry mirrored his own situation.
He nonchalantly wiped the berry with his hand before tossing it into his mouth. The sweet burst of strawberry juice filled his mouth, yet Beckett found it oddly bitter, the taste lingering and making his cheeks tingle.
He crouched again, carefully picking up the broken pieces of cake from the ground and putting them back in the box. Then, he grabbed a napkin to wipe the cream off the floor.
Aside from the water stains left by the ice pack, the spot looked perfectly clean, as though nothing had ever happened there.
The sweet cake, the carefully chosen gift he had brought with such excitement, was now all gone—just remnants scattered on the ground. With a sigh, he tossed the box into the trash can.
For a moment, he wondered if his heart, just like that box, was nothing but discarded trash in the eyes of others.
Once Bonita reached her dorm, she bolted straight to the bathroom. She splashed her face with cold water, feeling the chill seep into her skin. Her bangs, now drenched, stuck to her forehead, but at least it helped her shake off the chaos of the moment.
Her phone, which she had left on the counter, suddenly buzzed, making her jump.
It was a notification for a private message.
Without hesitation, she grabbed her phone and opened the message. It was from Neal: “Will you agree or not? If you think the price is too high, we can negotiate.”
Bonita felt even more certain now that Neal wasn’t interested in her because of any feelings but because he truly needed money.
Yet, he had already earned a significant amount from his signing fee and tipping shares. Bonita couldn’t wrap her head around why he was struggling financially. Had he gotten himself into some expensive habit or debt that she didn’t know about?
The thought sent a chill down her spine.

Just as she tried to push the thought aside, Neal’s next message arrived—a single question mark.
Bonita had never seen him so restless, almost as if his desperation was pressing down on her like an invisible weight.
“Alright, deal,” she replied, her hands trembling as she typed.
Her agreement came from a mix of emotions. Part of her truly wanted to be Neal’s girlfriend, to hold that special place in his life. But another part of her felt afraid—afraid that if she hesitated, Neal would just move on and choose someone else.
The mere idea of another woman taking her place was unbearable.
That was why she decided to agree.
Neal quickly responded with an account number and a message: “Transfer the money to this account when you can. Once that’s done, you’re officially my girlfriend. Where are you? Share your location, and I’ll come to meet you tomorrow.”
