Chapter 534
Chapter 534:
After Cristian opened the door, the driver said, “Mr. Reed, I noticed you’ve got a pretty nasty scratch on your hand.” He offered the bag. “I grabbed some first aid supplies to fix you up.”
“Thanks,” Cristian said, managing a grateful smile. “I’ll take it from here.”
He accepted the bag, which contained the essentials—cotton swabs, iodine, gauze, tape, and band-aids. Inspecting the fresh bloodstains on his hand, Cristian began cleaning the wound meticulously.
His right hand sported three noticeable scratches, with one particularly severe streaking from his wrist to his fingers. He thought of Nolan, the one who had given him those scratches. Nolan, once vibrant and active, had found himself confined to a wheelchair after a leg injury, forcing him to withdraw and stay indoors.
His parents, worried about their son’s growing isolation, had turned his room into a sanctuary of distractions—filled with toys, books, and musical instruments. After a phase of resistance and emotional turmoil, Nolan took to the guitar, which quickly became his treasured pastime.
The long nails on his right hand, grown out for plucking strings, had unexpectedly come in handy today. Cristian’s expression hardened into a thin smile as he dabbed away the last of the blood.
The deep scratch was too severe for a mere band-aid. He carefully wrapped his hand in gauze.
Around seven in the evening, after calling Evie to coordinate, Cristian drove to the spot she had mentioned to pick her up. As she hopped into the car, Evie waved cheerfully to the friends she had left behind.
“Did you have a good time?” Cristian inquired.
“It was brilliant,” Evie responded with a sparkle in her eyes. “Lucky you were tied up today, or I might have skipped out on dinner with them!”
Cristian offered a subdued smile and stayed quiet thereafter.

Flights between Litdence and Esaham were plentiful. Upon reaching the terminal, they picked up tickets for the next available flight. Evie noticed Cristian’s bandaged hand and grabbed it, asking, “What’s with your hand? It was perfectly fine just a few hours ago!”
“It’s nothing,” Cristian dismissed with a wave of his other hand. “Just a little scuffle with a dog.”
“What? A dog attacked you?” Evie’s voice rose with worry. “Did you get a rabies shot? That’s no laughing matter!”
Cristian paused briefly, then reassured her with a nod. “Don’t worry, I’m covered.”
Relieved, Evie calmed down but couldn’t stop herself from talking about the reckless dog for the next half hour.
Once aboard the plane, Cristian tilted his seat back, clearly ready to catch some sleep. Seeing that he was wiped out, Evie let him be and popped on her headphones to dive into her music.
