Chapter 540
Chapter 540:
“Talk? What good will that do? She won’t listen! She thinks she’s right. What happens next? Will she try to have Beckett arrested again? She’ll ruin my son!” Nettie motioned for Beckett to come over, her tone hard. “Beckett, let’s go home. She isn’t worth your time. With a future like yours, you deserve someone better than her.”
“You’re right, I’m not good enough. So, please, tell your son to stop bothering me from now on.” Bonita lifted her head sharply, her piercing gaze meeting Nettie’s eyes as she spoke, her voice cold. “I’d be perfectly fine with that.”
Nettie’s rage surged at the dismissive words, her face flushed. “What did you say?” she hissed, her hand darting out to pinch Bonita’s cheek. The pinch was far worse than the slap Beckett had given her earlier.
Pain flared across Bonita’s face as she gasped, her features contorting in agony.
“Let go! Let go!” Bonita cried out, struggling against Nettie’s vice-like grip.
Nettie’s fingers dug into Bonita’s face as if she intended to tear the skin from her. “How dare you criticize my son?” she hissed, her voice dripping with venom. “Are you plotting to hurt him again?”
The pain in Bonita’s cheek was excruciating, sending waves of numbness through her entire face. Tears began to flow freely as she fought to endure the assault.
With a swift, unforgiving motion, Nettie yanked Bonita from the chair, sending her crashing to the floor at Beckett’s feet.
Finally, Nettie released her grip.
Bonita’s mouth hung open, but no words came. She reached up to touch her face, her hand trembling as she hesitated, too fearful to make contact.
The throbbing in her cheek felt as though part of her skin had been ripped away, leaving her in a haze of pain.
Lola knelt beside her daughter, her voice sharp with reprimand.

“Bonita, why are you so stubborn? Since you’re wrong, just apologize! It’s not that hard!”
“I did nothing wrong,” Bonita said, her voice ringing with defiance. Each word she spoke made the pain in her cheek flare up, and her tears flowed faster, but she had to stand firm—she was certain she had done nothing wrong.
In her heart, she knew it.
Nettie’s gaze hardened, her disgust for Bonita intensifying as she observed her refusal to yield.
With a scoff, she folded her arms tightly, her lips pressed together in refusal to speak another word.
Fury rippled through Myron as he kicked Bonita’s leg and shouted, “Will you apologize?”
“I did nothing wrong,” Bonita replied, her tone unwavering.
She remained resolute in her belief that she had done nothing wrong. Beckett had assaulted her for no reason, and in her only act of defense, she had called the police. What was wrong with that?
