Inside the house, Selma was chatting with Michelle in the living room, Crowell and Amber beside her.

As Fernanda walked in, Selma pursed her lips. “Out causing a fuss on Christmas Eve, huh?”

Fernanda paused, then smiled coolly. “I have a schoolmate whose grandfather is 101. He says the secret to a long life is minding your own business.”

With that, she climbed the stairs, ignoring Selma’s glare.

Selma shook her head and hissed, “Such bad manners.”

Kevin, playing with his phone on the sofa, slammed it onto the coffee table, startling Selma.

“Kevin?” she asked, her tone softening. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” he replied, slipping on his shoes. “I’m going out. Might as well enjoy it.”

He stormed out, slamming the door.

Outside, the cold bit at him, but Kevin didn’t feel like going back inside. He wasn’t sure why Selma’s jabs at Fernanda had made him so angry, but they had. That was why he had intentionally annoyed Selma.

At the neighborhood café, he ordered a mocha and reopened his game. The sight of Nimbus, the top player on his friend list, online immediately brightened his mood.

He immediately sent a message. “Nimbus! Long time no see!” He even added a string of emojis.

Nimbus replied with a game invite, and Kevin happily accepted. As they played, Kevin’s earlier irritation melted away. His grin stretched from ear to ear.
