Chapter 581:

Fernanda could almost see Clement’s smug grin as he typed. She smiled and accepted the transfer.

The next morning, she rose just after six. After freshening up, she checked her messages and saw one from Cristian asking her to meet him once she was ready. She headed to his room, and shortly after, breakfast arrived.

They enjoyed a quiet meal and left the hotel before seven. Zhota greeted them with a brisk morning chill. Fernanda wrapped her coat tightly as they walked toward the parking lot. With yesterday’s driver absent, Cristian took the wheel.

As they passed a roadside flower shop, Fernanda mused aloud, “I’ll pick up some flowers for Hiram.”

“I’ve already taken care of it,” Cristian mentioned, nodding toward the back seat.

Turning, Fernanda spotted a bouquet of carnations.

“When did you manage that?” she asked, impressed.

“Last night, after I met someone, I saw a flower shop still open on my way back and picked those up,” he explained.

Fernanda was struck by Cristian’s thoughtfulness and attention to detail.

Forty minutes later, they reached their destination. Cristian handed Fernanda the bouquet, and together, they walked into the cemetery. Following the path up the hill, they turned right midway and stopped before a tombstone, pausing in a moment of solemnity.

As Clement had noted the day before, the tombstone was impeccably kept, showing signs of regular care.

Fernanda laid the bouquet down and tenderly stroked the photo attached to the tombstone. The elderly man in the picture wore a gentle, kind smile.

“Hiram, I’ve come to see you,” Fernanda whispered, her voice soft but steady. “I’m doing well now, so you don’t need to worry about me.” Her words faltered slightly as emotions welled up. Hiram had always held a tender place in her heart, and it didn’t take much to bring her to tears.

Cristian knelt beside her and draped an arm comfortingly over her shoulders.

“Hiram, this is my boyfriend,” she managed to say, dabbing at her eyes. “He’s really good to me.”

Cristian reached up to gently brush away her tears. He then turned toward the tombstone, his expression solemn, and spoke. “Hello, Hiram. I’m Cristian. You can rest easy knowing I will take good care of Fernanda. I’ll cherish her and protect her, just as you did.”

His tone was resolute, carrying the weight of a solemn promise. In the past, Fernanda’s visits to Hiram’s grave were often solitary affairs, where she would linger for most of the day. This time, however, she wasn’t alone. She felt supported, not just by Cristian, but by the warm memories of Hiram.
