Chapter 589:

“Today is indeed a good day, perfect for such decisions,” Bobby said with feigned nonchalance, staring straight ahead. “Fernanda, is there anything you need me to do?”

“No,” Fernanda replied. “It shouldn’t be too hard, especially since it aligns with your mother’s wishes.”

Bobby bit his lip, wondering if he should share his recent observations—that his mom didn’t seem to take as much issue with Fernanda as before. Whenever his dad brought up Fernanda at home, his mom’s reactions weren’t as harsh as they used to be.

“It’s just your father who might be tough to convince,” Fernanda mused. “But he is reasonable. I’m confident he’ll see things our way.”

“Yeah,” Cristian agreed softly, squeezing her hand. “He will.”

Bobby stayed quiet. He had a feeling things were more complicated than they seemed. But he chose to keep his concerns to himself to avoid adding any stress for Cristian and Fernanda.

As the car pulled up outside the Harper family’s home, Fernanda noticed Robert’s car was already parked there.

“When I mention breaking off the engagement, just stay silent,” Fernanda instructed Cristian.

“I know.” He nodded.

If Martin and Judie got the impression she wanted to end the engagement because of her interest in Cristian, it could spark a major misunderstanding.

Inside, Fernanda was greeted by the sound of Robert’s booming laughter. She looked over to see the Morgans lounging on the sofa, with Robert’s face alight with joy.

Fernanda thought grimly that his happiness might soon be overshadowed by her announcement.

Martin and Robert were sitting comfortably on the sofa, with Martin wearing a burgundy suit that perfectly captured his refined taste. His smile was understated, adding to his natural charm, while his eyes, soft and clear, reflected a deep sophistication.

Robert’s expression was distinctly more animated, a broad smile lighting up his face and the fine lines near his eyes deepening. He was genuinely delighted by their earlier conversation.

Judie was perched on a single-seater chair, dressed in a dark red gown that echoed the color of Martin’s suit. It struck Fernanda as peculiar, as she had spotted the same gown at Gibson’s Dress Shop, where Judie had made the purchase.

At Curran’s birthday banquet, Judie hadn’t shown much interest in discussing the gowns crafted by Gibson’s Dress Shop with the other ladies. Yet now, she wore one that highlighted her elegance and grace, with an undeniable air of superiority.

Her hair was styled into an elegant bun, adorned with a pearl hairpin that accentuated her status as a distinguished lady.

Standing next to Judie, Michelle, though always well-groomed, seemed somewhat eclipsed by Judie’s innate elegance.
