Chapter 718
Chapter 718:
To Hertha, there was no reason for Fernanda to refuse. It was a win-win. Who wouldn’t want to mingle with influential figures in the industry? The connections could only open more doors for Fernanda’s future.
“You can’t get in without being invited,” Hertha remarked. “Please, accept my invitation. Just this once, help me out, please?”
She blinked innocently, her eyes wide with sincere appeal, brimming with hope as she stared at Fernanda.
“My situation at the company is really bad right now. None of the senior executives are willing to come with me. Mr. Turner is… well, he’s not an option anymore. Ms. Morgan, you’re the only one I can turn to. I know I messed up before, but please, just this once, be kind and help me out.”
Fernanda’s gaze flickered to the invitation in Hertha’s hand, her expression cool and detached. “Let’s not pretend. You’re just trying to use me.”
The heat rushed to Hertha’s cheeks, her face turning a shade of red she couldn’t hide. For some reason, standing before Fernanda made her feel exposed, as if every secret thought was visible. There was no way to hide her intentions from Fernanda, not even for a moment.
“It’s not like that!” Hertha quickly protested, waving her hands in a flurry. “I just want to make amends… and ask for a favor. It’s not like you won’t get anything out of it…”
She glanced at Fernanda, anxiously searching for any sign of agreement.
Then, just when it seemed like all hope was lost, Fernanda reached out and took the invitation from her hand.
Hertha’s heart skipped a beat, her eyes lighting up with sudden hope.
“Since you came all the way to ask me, I won’t make it harder for you,” Fernanda said, her voice slow and deliberate. “If you really want to attend that gala with someone, I can have someone else go in my place, right?”
Hertha blinked, her confusion evident. “Wait, what?”
“You claimed you didn’t want to use me. If that’s the case, letting someone else take my place should be fine for you. Don’t worry—whoever I send will be someone of importance.”

At this point, Fernanda had already made her stance clear. If Hertha turned her down, she would look bad, as if she had ulterior motives with Fernanda.
Reluctantly, Hertha nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. “Then thank you.”
A faint smile tugged at Fernanda’s lips as she turned to walk away.
But Hertha couldn’t shake the unease building inside her, her mind racing with questions about who Fernanda would choose to accompany her.
Fernanda had taken only a few steps when Sloane caught up with her. Sloane was dressed in a classic plaid skirt with a leather student bag slung over her shoulder, the bag bulging with books.
“Am I seeing things, or was that… Hertha that I just saw?” she asked curiously, glancing back at Fernanda.
“You’re not mistaken. It was her,” Fernanda replied, giving a simple nod.
Immediately, Sloane became more alert, her eyes sharpening. “What does she want from you? It can’t be anything good.”
