Chapter 719
Chapter 719:
Fernanda handed Sloane the invitation she had been holding, saying, “She wants me to accompany her to this event.”
Sloane took it, examining the elegant paper and quickly piecing things together. “Ah, I know this one. The gala’s a yearly affair. It makes headlines every time—big crowds, lots of buzz. But why would she invite you? You two are not exactly close!”
Fernanda didn’t respond, simply smiling and offering Sloane a knowing look.
Sloane’s expression shifted as realization hit her. “Wait, she’s after the publicity, isn’t she? If the two of you show up together, it’ll create a stir. She gets the attention, and you’re just her stepping stone. Aw, these rising stars, they’ll do anything for fame.”
Sloane tucked the invitation into Fernanda’s bag, her voice heavy with disbelief. “So, what’s the verdict? Are you really considering going with her?”
A sly smirk curled on Fernanda’s lips. “Not exactly. I might just skip it altogether. But if I don’t go, I can always send someone else. After all, I’ve got my own media company now. Getting some juicy news from that gala could work in our favor.” Her eyes gleamed with quiet calculation. “She’s trying to use me for attention, but why not flip it and use this to spotlight someone else instead?”
Sloane, clearly impressed, gave Fernanda a thumbs up. “Smart move, as always. Just like you.”
No surprise there—Fernanda was always one step ahead. No matter the situation, she always found a way to turn things in her favor. Sloane couldn’t help but think that Fernanda was exactly the type of person her father always said would make a…
brilliant businesswoman. As they approached the school gate, Fernanda slowed her pace. With exams underway, the usual crowd was missing from the gates, and the area felt quieter than usual. Taxis lined the road, their steady stream of students getting in and out without much disruption.
Just ahead, a sleek black sedan was parked along the roadside, its polished exterior gleaming in the sunlight. For some reason, Fernanda couldn’t shake the feeling that it had a presence, something familiar about it. Could it be… Cristian?
“Head to the library first,” Fernanda said to Sloane, her tone casual. “I’ll catch up later.”
Sloane nodded. “Sure, but hurry! Or there might not be any seats left.” With a final nod, Fernanda made her way toward the car.

As she took a few more steps, the back door of the car swung open. Through the gap, Fernanda caught sight of Cristian, his warm smile lighting up his face. He wasn’t dressed in a suit today. Instead, he wore a simple white t-shirt and light gray pants, radiating a carefree energy. His appearance seemed different—youthful, as if a few years had slipped away from him.
“I knew it was you,” Fernanda remarked as she slid into the car. “Why didn’t you mention you were coming?”
“I had a feeling you’d spot me, even without a call or a honk.” With a playful glint in his eyes, Cristian leaned toward Fernanda, his smile stretching wide. “I was right, wasn’t I?”
Fernanda attempted to nudge him away, but his hand settled on the back of her neck, holding her firmly in place. Then, before she could protest, he leaned in and brushed a gentle kiss against her lips.
