Chapter 724
Chapter 724:
“Why didn’t you turn on the lights?” Fernanda asked, placing a hand over her chest as she looked at Wendy. “I thought you were out.”
“Too lazy to bother,” Wendy said, shrugging nonchalantly.
After a quick shower, Fernanda stepped out to find Wendy still slumped on the sofa, staring into space.
Towel in hand, she walked over to Wendy, drying her hair as she observed her friend. “What’s going on? You seem off today.”
Fernanda had always been quick to notice when something was wrong with those around her. Wendy’s behavior immediately told her that something was up.
“I’m fine, just thinking,” Wendy replied, though her voice lacked its usual spark. “The professor said we’ll have to go out again this summer. There’s an ancient tomb being excavated in the southwest.”
“Wow, sounds like a lot of work,” Fernanda remarked, impressed.
A small smile tugged at Wendy’s lips. “It’s tough, but so worth it. The idea of uncovering things that have been buried for thousands of years — it’s like conversing with the past. It’s incredible.”
Fernanda nodded, her eyes widening slightly. “I can imagine. Sometimes I wish I had followed your path. It sounds like such an adventure.”
“Next time, if there’s an opportunity, I’ll take you to the site,” Wendy offered with a grin. “That is, if you’re not too freaked out.”
“Deal!” Fernanda exclaimed, clapping her hands excitedly. “But you better keep your promise and show me around when the chance comes.”
“Don’t worry, I never back out on my word,” Wendy replied, gathering her things before heading to the bathroom. “You’ve been hitting the books all day. You must be exhausted — get some rest.”
The week leading up to the exams was a whirlwind of stress and satisfaction.
Before long, the exams were over, and the results were posted.

Fernanda eagerly logged into the campus portal, her heart racing as she checked her grades. She couldn’t help but smile — her GPA was stellar, and securing a scholarship for the next year was practically a given.
Then came the summer break, and with it, the anticipation of the final competition in August.
Fernanda had chosen to stay at school over the summer, a decision not all that uncommon among students who craved independence or needed to focus on academics. Her usual haunts were the studio and Bright Lights Media, though sometimes, when she craved a different sort of distraction, she’d find herself sitting at Wendy’s bar.
She hadn’t returned to the Morgans’ house. Ector had asked her out to dinner a few times, but he never mentioned anything about her returning home to the Morgans — he knew all too well how little Fernanda cared for that idea.
Bonita, meanwhile, was knee-deep in a summer internship, keeping herself so busy that she didn’t have much time to go back home either. Her parents had come to check on her, visibly distressed to see that she’d lost a significant amount of weight.
