Chapter 728:

Just then, Fernanda’s phone buzzed. It was a voice message from Evie. “Hey, Fernanda, guess what?” Evie’s voice rang out, full of excitement. “We’ve made it! We’re in our seats, the ones you saved for us.” Fernanda smiled to herself. Those were the coveted front-row spots, and she figured she’d swing by to greet them.

What she hadn’t anticipated, though, was that the first person she’d run into in the front row would be Robert. There, his entire family was gathered—Erika and Michelle proudly holding up banners to support Kevin’s team. At the far end of the row, she spotted Selma and the Cruz siblings—Crowell and Amber—a full-fledged family cheer squad.

Fernanda quickly shifted her gaze from Robert and walked forward, determined to avoid further contact. But Robert wasn’t about to let her slip away that easily.

“Why are you leaving without a word? Aren’t you going to greet your father?” Robert asked, stepping in front of her, his voice cold and accusatory.

Nearly six months had passed since their last encounter, yet Robert hadn’t changed a bit. His presence still gripped Fernanda with an overwhelming sense of annoyance. Ever since Cristian handed her those newspapers revealing Robert’s past with her mother, Fernanda’s disgust for this man, her biological father, had only deepened.

“I’ve been leaving you alone,” Fernanda replied in an even tone. “Since I know you’d rather not see me. So, what do you want from me, Mr. Morgan?”

A mocking laugh escaped Robert. “Then you should understand why I stay away. And you should also know what you need to do next.” Confusion flickered in…

Fernanda’s eyes remained fixed on Robert as she tilted her head slightly. “What do you mean? What exactly should I do, according to you?”

Her sarcastic tone only fueled Robert’s fury. He clenched his jaw, his patience wearing thin as he responded, “You need to understand your value! Without Bobby, you’re nothing. Find yourself another rich man in Esaham. You’ve got the looks; use them, and you’ll be set for life.”

Around them, the space hummed with noise, but nothing was more jarring than Robert’s bitter words. Was that really how he saw her? In simple terms, he was telling her to use her looks to secure a rich and influential man for himself, wasn’t he?

Fernanda stood frozen, stunned into silence. Robert, despite his education, had allowed such a twisted view to fester. Was it really possible that he believed women could only succeed with the help of men?

For a moment, Fernanda considered walking away—no argument would change him. But just as she turned, Selma’s voice cut through the air. “So, today’s competition… it’s between your team and Kevin’s, right?”

Fernanda turned to find Selma’s sharp eyes narrowing in her direction. “Yes,” she replied, her tone flat and emotionless.

A disdainful click of Selma’s tongue followed. “For crying out loud! Still competing against your little brother?”

Unfazed, Fernanda held Selma’s gaze, her expression as cold as stone, as if she were staring at discarded rubbish. “And what do you suggest?”

Selma didn’t hesitate, her voice firm and certain. “You should let Kevin win, obviously. Winning wouldn’t benefit you at all. Give it to him. He’s young, and a victory would do wonders for his future.”
