Chapter 729
Chapter 729:
Selma didn’t care for the game or the competition. To her, the only thing that mattered was making sure her grandson came out on top. The championship? It was meant to be his grandson’s, and no one else’s. Fernanda’s brow twitched with irritation. The day’s events were already weighing on her, souring her mood further.
“Let’s see who actually has the skills, then,” Fernanda scoffed, her eyes flashing to Selma with disdain. “Who do you think you’re talking to? Sit down, Karen. You don’t have the power to call the shots here.”
Selma clearly didn’t get the joke, but Crowell and Amber shared a knowing glance. In an instant, Crowell jumped to his feet, pointing at Fernanda and launching a stream of insults.
Fernanda ignored him completely. With a swift turn, she made her way toward the exit.
Just as she took two steps, she spotted Evie sprinting toward her.
“Fernanda! What are you doing here? I’ve been waiting forever, and you didn’t even come over!” Evie exclaimed, pulling Fernanda toward her with a playful tug.
“Who does this girl think she is?” Selma barked, irritation clear in her voice. “Can’t you see a family conversation is happening?”
Having just returned from overseas, Evie wasn’t acquainted with everyone around, and Selma was a complete stranger to her. So when the older woman shot her a cold glare, Evie was left puzzled.
“Fernanda, who’s this?” Evie asked, her brow furrowing in confusion.
“Someone who doesn’t matter,” Fernanda replied with a shrug. “Guess what?”
Evie smirked, rolling her eyes at Selma before leaning close to Fernanda’s ear. “My grandpa’s here too!”
Fernanda blinked, caught off guard. “Seriously?”
“You know I don’t lie to you,” Evie grinned, raising an eyebrow. Just as she was about to tug Fernanda away, Selma blocked their path.

Selma had a knack for asserting dominance, especially over younger people. She believed that her age automatically commanded respect and that everyone should yield to her—especially those of the younger generation.
With her daughter and son-in-law enjoying success in Esaham, Selma felt that the world owed her a certain deference. To her, that meant everyone should bow to her authority as a respected elder. After Fernanda’s sharp remarks, Selma had already been riled up, but now this girl dared to blatantly ignore her. The nerve of it.
“Birds of a feather flock together,” Selma thought, concluding that Fernanda seemed to associate only with people who, like her, lacked basic manners.
Glaring at Evie with a look that dripped condescension, she lectured, “Did your parents teach you nothing? When someone’s speaking, you wait your turn. I was talking to Fernanda, and you just waltz right in and pull her away? Do you even see me standing here?” Both Evie and Robert stood frozen, stunned by the outburst.
Although Selma had no idea who Evie was, Robert certainly did. Evie was Martin and Judie’s daughter—how dare Selma question her upbringing like that?
Without missing a beat, Robert rose to his feet, his voice calm yet firm. “Selma, please don’t. She’s…”
