Chapter 730:

A sharp, disdainful snort sliced through the air.

Evie turned swiftly, her face lighting up as she saw the familiar figure. “Grandpa!” she called, her voice full of warmth.

Fernanda followed suit, her greeting respectful and polite. “Mr. Reed,” she said with a smile.

Curran, dressed in a sharp dark blue suit, looked every bit the dignified gentleman. His neatly combed hair and energetic presence spoke volumes—he radiated vitality and confidence.

From afar, he had noticed Evie calling out to Fernanda but saw that she hadn’t moved to join them. Thinking Fernanda wasn’t intending to sit with them, he decided to check on her. But as he neared, he overheard Selma’s sharp words aimed at questioning Evie’s upbringing.

Robert, noticing Curran’s approach, immediately stiffened. His posture hunched, and he rushed forward to greet the older man. “Mr. Reed! I didn’t expect to see you here. How have you been?” he stammered, offering a handshake.

Curran returned the gesture warmly, shaking Robert’s hand before glancing over at Selma with an inquisitive look. “And this?”

“Selma, my wife’s mother,” Robert answered awkwardly, a hint of embarrassment creeping into his voice.

“Ah, I see now,” Curran sneered. “It seems she has a lot to say about my granddaughter, thinking I can’t keep her in line, huh?”

Michelle, flustered and red-faced, quickly jumped in. “Oh no, Mr. Reed, you’ve got it wrong,” she stammered, trying to smooth things over. “My mother didn’t mean any harm. This is just… just…”

Curran raised an eyebrow. “A misunderstanding, you say?” he asked with genuine curiosity.

Michelle faltered, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. “I’m, yeah,” she mumbled, not quite finding the words to explain.

Before Selma could interject, Erika quickly placed a hand on her arm, silencing her.

Though Selma didn’t recognize Curran at first, the respectful gestures from her daughter and son-in-law gave her pause. Clearly, he was someone important.

“Mr. Reed, please, take a seat,” Robert insisted warmly. “Are you here to watch the competition as well?”

“Indeed.” Curran nodded, his eyes flicking toward Fernanda. He gave her shoulder a firm pat. “I’ve come from Litdence to cheer you on, Fernanda. Your team better give us a good show. If you don’t clinch that championship, I’ll be disappointed.”

Evie jumped in without missing a beat. “Fernanda, don’t let Grandpa down! You have to win! And don’t you dare let your brother get the best of you just because he’s on the other team!”

“We’ll win, no problem,” Fernanda reassured them with a confident smile.

“Let’s head to the competition then!” Curran beamed, taking Fernanda’s arm with enthusiasm. “I don’t understand all the ins and outs, so you’ll have to explain it to me.”

As Fernanda and Evie walked ahead, Selma stood frozen, her confusion evident. Turning to Robert, she asked, her voice a mix of disbelief and intrigue, “Who is that old man? Is his family more influential than ours?”
