Chapter 789
Chapter 789:
“Your words are unnecessarily harsh.” Nettie’s expression darkened, her spine straightening like a blade. “My son is perfectly fine. He is just… a bit agitated.”
Nettie refused to acknowledge her son’s mental illness and opposed others labeling him as a patient.
To hear Fernanda paint such a picture—here, in front of everyone—was intolerable.
“Oh? Agitated?” Fernanda’s lips curved in an unhurried smile, unshaken by Nettie’s sharp tone. “Well, it’s not up to us to decide if he is mentally unwell or not.”
“The test results will be out soon, and they will tell us everything we need to know.” At that, Nettie erupted.
Her carefully woven composure unraveled into a tangle of outrage. “Who authorized this?” Her voice climbed, pitched with fury. “Who dared to subject my son to tests without our consent?”
Her outburst drew the attention of nearby police officers, who moved in to contain the disturbance.
“Take your hands off me!” Nettie jabbed a finger at the officers, her fury scorching the air. “How could you do that? Testing my son behind our backs? He does not need tests! He is in perfect health!”
“Madam, we are following protocol. And we must ask you to lower your voice—this is not the place for shouting.”
“Lower my voice? Yesterday, you refused to let us see our son, and now you say you’ve taken him for some ridiculous examination? Is this some kind of joke?” Nettie wrenched herself free from the officer’s grasp, wild with indignation. “You are abusing your power. I will sue all of you. I’ll make sure you lose your badges for this!”
Jett, always conscious of his image, felt the heat of secondhand embarrassment wash over him. His wife, usually poised, was now frothing at the mouth like a caged beast, turning an already delicate situation into an utter spectacle.
Grabbing her firmly, he pressed a hand over her mouth. “Enough! Do you hear yourself? Stop this madness!”
Nettie yanked free, glaring daggers at him. “Madness? What about you? Have you lost your spine?” She spun on the officers once more. “How dare you interfere? Do you even know who I am? Just wait—I will make sure none of you keep your jobs!”

Nettie was accustomed to getting her way, to issuing commands without challenge. And now, she was speaking her mind without hesitation.
The officers exchanged looks before shaking their heads, unimpressed. Over the years, they had encountered all sorts—those who threw tantrums, those who wielded their status like a weapon, those who bluffed their way through intimidation. Nettie was just another name in that long list.
Fearing she would escalate further, Jett took hold of her and dragged her away.
Outside, the midday sun blazed without mercy. Cicadas droned in the oppressive heat, their ceaseless cries amplifying the tension that hung thick in the air.
“Will you just stop?” Jett growled, his patience eroding like sand beneath the tide. “Look where we are! This is Esaham! Do you think this is still our turf?”
