Chapter 800:

“Brilliant move,” Levi exclaimed, patting Neal on the back. “Converting detractors to cash machines? That’s some savvy thinking.”

Neal, resting a foot on the table, flashed a grin. “Exactly my thoughts.” He scanned the room before turning to ask, “Where’s Gifford? Didn’t he show up?”

“He’s with his student,” Alex replied.

Neal’s brow furrowed. “His student? The one he tutors? But haven’t the college entrance exams finished? Why continue the sessions?”

“Who knows? Could be something else.” Levi gave a nonchalant shrug.

“It’s definitely a girl; I caught a glimpse of her photo when Gifford was messaging,” Alex said confidently.

Levi, pushing his glasses up, wore a mischievous smile. “A whole year of tutoring? Sounds like it’s straight out of a romance show. They might be off somewhere romantic as we speak.” The group laughed.

“You guys are such gossips,” Sloane scolded, giving each a playful slap on the back. “Just wait, I’ll tell Gifford everything when he gets back!” Yet, when Sloane encountered Gifford the following day, she kept quiet and said nothing at all.

Gifford appeared troubled, his face marked by worry and distraction.

Respecting his privacy, Sloane chose not to delve deeper, instead joining Levi and the others for a gaming session, which now included Clement.

Clement’s gaming skills had noticeably improved, and he had introduced two new gamers to the studio. Impressed by their abilities, Fernanda had them sign temporary contracts to test out the streaming potential.

As the school year began, Fernanda entered her second year of studies. Students admitted through the entrance exam followed a two-year curriculum, meaning Fernanda was set to graduate at the end of this academic year. Neal and his friends, now juniors, were preparing for their internship year as seniors next year, marking the end of their regular campus life. Sloane was struck by the realization. “Hold on, you’re all graduating? Including Wendy? I’m going to be left behind!”

Levi laughed and gave Sloane a reassuring pat on the shoulder. “Relax, it’s no big deal.”

“You guys better not get too good without me,” Sloane warned them.

“Remember, we’re a team.”

“We’ll only leave you behind if we find someone who plays better,” Levi joked, trying to lighten the mood.

“No way, you can’t ever leave me!” Sloane’s voice wavered, her eyes brimming with tears.

Seeing he’d upset her, Levi quickly softened his tone. “Hey, I was just joking. We’re not going to leave you behind.”

Sloane pouted, still looking hurt.

She was not one to throw tantrums or cry without cause; she only shed tears when she was genuinely upset.

After receiving a heartfelt apology and a promise of a gift, Sloane finally let it go.

By the end of September, Beckett’s intensive evaluation was complete. Fernanda had opted for an inpatient evaluation rather than an outpatient one for Beckett. He was held in a high-security psychiatric ward, under constant surveillance to ensure the accuracy of his diagnosis.
